1962 Triumph Herald

NO RESERVE

Thanks for checking out"Harvey"my 1962 Triumph Herald, this is aneat little car, ust a hoot to drive, ery nimble, reat handling thanks toits peppy 1200, spd and IRS rear suspension. These are just a blast to take out on the backroads through the countryside. They built these cars from 1959-1971, any folks have never seen one, or heard of one, t is fun to have something different, ost people when they come to my shop, sually end up around it, ecause it is so unique. I love Vehicles that make people take notice and ask, hat is that, ts super cute. The styling is very different, rom the front to the rear, love the front headlights and rear taillights. Triumph built 3 different models, he Saloon, hich is a 2dr sedan, he convertible, nd fastback coupe w/ removable hardtop, he best of both worlds. I see the other cars occasionally, ut very rare to see the coupe version, hese make for very light cars, nd great for racing, nd still use a full frame for strength. Later on they built the Triumph Vitesse which is a Herald with a 6 cylinder, hat a little monster. I bought this car actually about a year ago, nd my plans were to turn it into a little street/track car, wanted to keep it stock looking but really build a car that Rootes orShelbymight have built if they would have gotten ahold of back in the day, erhaps a little v8. Well I have decided to sell it, bviously I buy and sell cars, ut I’m a car nut on top of that and love to work and restorerigs. The only reason I am selling it is because another little car showed up 1955 Messerschmitt KR200, nd I been wanting one of these for a long time, nd I don’t have the funds currently to do both cars at the same time, sothe little Herald is up for sale, ith No Reserve to help my fund my other project. I found this little Herald out in Mt. Angel, regon, ust about 15 minutes from my house. My wife was running a Marathon out there during Octoberfest, o I went, nd she took off running at 6:45am, he always wonders want I am going to do for 4 hours or so, usually figure something out. Well I decided to walk the streets of the little German inspired town, nd I saw this guy sitting on his porch drinking coffee. I look back in his garage, nd I see this little Herald sitting there, have to admit, didn’t know what it was at first glance. He said he had owned it near 30 years. Let just say at 7:30am I was the new owner. After my wife ran the race, he said I hope you weren’t bored, said I kept myself entertained like normal. Anyways, his is a cool little car, will be a little sad to see it go, ho ever gets it will have a lot of fun with it. If you would like to talk about it more, ive me call, t would be my pleasure to explain more about it, ery hard to describe any car in words, ut photos do help a lot, nd I took a bunch for you, ver 100, f you are interested in a Buy it Now Option, et me know, hanks, ason 503-910-2085.

Mechanically it is in pretty good shape. Engine runs very good, ounds like a sewing machine, t is all stock, hese cars ran Dual Solex Carbs which it still has on it, ith manual choke. It takes a little bit to get it started if you are new to it, ou got to get the choke just right, nd spin it over a few times when it is cold or been sitting. If you know Solex carbs, hey don’t have accelerator pumps, o you can’t pump them with the pedal, t just takes a little while for the fuel to get up there to fire off especially when it sits. But once you get it started, t fires easy every time. The engine idles, ice, t does not blow smoke or burn oil, t is actually a pretty clean running little engine. It has plenty of power for its size, t likes to warm up a bit before you drive it, ut after that you are good to go. The transmission shifts nice, riginal 4spd manual, lutch feels good, oes not pop out of gear. I have done a lot of work on the brakes, urned all the drums, ew shoes, ront wheel bearings, t stops good now. I also put brand new tires on it a couple months ago, o they have very little wear. As you can see from the engine compartment, t is very original, own to the valve cover and factory aircleaner. The rear end, eels good no slop in it, hen I am backing up I can hear a little noise sometimes, ike a shock or something is loose, have not been able to figure it out yet, t doesn’t affect its drivability at all. I have had it out on the road some in the last month, ut prior to that, t has not been on the road since 2004, ut I have done a lot of general work to get it were it is today. This will make a nice little project for someone, airly straight forward, f you have a little mechanical skills this will be a great for you to drive and restore as you go.

Interior is in decent shape. The last owner had it completely redone in the 80’s, t shows a little wear but for the most part it is usable. Very nice looking inside and very comfortable to ride in, love the vintage seatbelts, ith the aluminum clasp, ou put it on like a regular belt. Non Smoker, ery pleasant. The door panels are nice, eats are in nice condition, I like the color combination. The rear panels, re a little loose. The Hardtop is in good shape, ut could use new seals. I have had this car outside a lot, nd it sat outside during the winter, nd does stay dry inside, have not had any issues. You can see the wood dash needs to restored, t has some cracks in it, ere someone added a glove box door, hich the door is hard to get open. I don’t think these cars had a door on them originally. The radio is not working, he wiper motor works, he heater fan works off a switch on dash. The turn signals are not currently working, ut it does have brake lights, eadlights, nd running lights currently. The horn does not work either. The odometer and speedometer both work, as gauge is not working. Take a look at the interior, he photos really give you a good idea of what it looks like. The drivers door is hard to shut, ou have to give it basically a good slam, on’t have to be nice to it, t needs to be fixed eventually. I did check the drains at the bottom of the doors and they are clear, nd I do not have a key for the door locks, ou will have to get one made at some point, nly the ignition key. He horn works off a switch on dash as well. There are a few other switches on dash but I am not sure where they go. The door glass, olls up and down nicely as well, o cracks in the windshield. Overall a driver quality interior that you wouldn't mind getting in and driving. The trunk area is all carpeted, he trunk pan is in excellent shape, o rust. The trunk latch, orks, ut the slot that it goes into to lock it down is not grabbing, t needs a new lockdown little plate, robably easy to fabricate one. One of the trunk hinges is broken, t still works, ut it needs repaired. Overall the interior and trunk area are in decent shape fora driver.

It has been repainted a few times, riginally a light greenish blue color. If you know Triumph or British cars, ou already knowtheyhave rust issues. The car because it has spent the last 30 years indoors,is really in great shape.Theis Herald very little rust, little bit on the frontpassenger fender you can see in the picture. The rest of the body is rust free, nd in great shape. The frame, sreally nice, no rust issues, ery solid, ery nice floors. The only areas were there is some rust pin holes, n underneath the rear seat on the passenger side, very easy to get to, ery easy to fix, he rest of the undercarriage is in amazing condition. The paint is around 35 years old, nd they didn't do a great job when they painted it, ask lines, he paint isnot very good, t is one color. It is not a bondo machine though, t is a little wavy down the sides, ut I have not seen any signs of any bondo abuse on it, ery solid. It has lots of big chips, cratches that have been touched up, ook at the photos, ou can see it has old paint, ut with that said, ery solid for a Triumph Herald, r any Triumph in general. All the chromeand bright work on the car, eeds restored, ome of the rubberbumpercorners that slide on are missing, ut they in general all need new rubbertrim.

I just love the nose on this car. The little RAC badge is out of my collection, nd not going with car. The top removes easily, ith 6 bolts if you choose to drive it as a convertible. This car has been in Oregon its whole life, hich explains its condition, hen concerning rust, e do not salt the roads, hich saved this Triumph. Those are the originalOregonPacific Wonderland plats on it, have front one as well. You can drive it around with the top on or off, hese have a full frame underneath of them, he top bolts on, ou could probably use some quick release hardware. The top is steel, ot fiberglass.
