Description

This is a Messerschmitt KR175 microcar. It is in pretty rough condition but does have several things going for it. With a portable fuel source and a few jumper wires and battery it starts and runs!! It also has the rare and desirable reverse gear option. Although integral to the engine the reverse is basically a separate gearbox that reverses the output so that you have four gears in reverse. When these cars where new this was an option that cost quite a bit more. The gearbox does shift through all gears and the reverse also works.
The floor has mostly disintegrated from rust and the sides of the tub have a lot of rust around the bottom. Both original seats are present with some of the original upholstery. All three pedals are still in the car. The handlebars and steering tie rods are not with the car. There is no canopy or fuel tank. The front wheels are original and it has a modern trailer rim and tire on the back. One interesting aspect to this car is that the original VIN tag (data plate) clearly shows it as a 1957. All the books and information I have read say that Messerschmitt stopped producing 175's in late 1955 or maybe early 1956. This appears to be proof that they continued making 175's much later than many experts concluded. The rubber suspension blocks where missing from the front so I propped up the suspension with wood blocks. The rubber parts are available new through clubs and dealers. It has both original tail lights that are an unusual style I haven't seen before. There is a head pipe on the engine but no muffler. A lot of the original wiring is still in the car and in decent condition. Original fuse box is also present. It will need all the cables for brakes clutch throttle etc.
I do not have a title for this car. I can give you a bill of sale only.
It's obviously in rough condition but definitely worth saving. Due to their simplicity and collect-ability Messerschmitts are one of few cars that you can do a total restoration and still come out ahead!
