1958 Peerless GT Phase 1 # GT2 00034
In 1957, ace car designer Bernie Rodger, long with John Gordon designed the prototypes for a new sports GT car. The production car became a 4 seat coupe, omewhat resembling a cross between an Aston Martin and a Bristol. They have a space frame made from square tubing, lass fibre body and are based on Triumph TR3 running gear; engine, ransmission, auges, uspension/steering. But they have a DeDion rear, ith a Salisbury differential, nd sliding half-shafts. Two of the of the first production cars, ith their engines furnished by Triumph's competition department, ere prepared for the 1958 LeMans. One car ran, nd finished 16th- that car is still in use in England. Peerless cars were (mostly) built in 1958-59. There were 249 Phase 1's, nd about 44 face-lifted Phase 2's. After Peerless parent company went under due to financial troubles, ordon went on to develop the Chrysler engined Gordon-Keeble, hile Rodger resumed production under the name Warwick GT, uilding around 40 cars from 1960-62, ith a tilt-up front end, nd other styling changes. In a marketing effort similar to the Sunbeam Tiger, nd AC Cobra, nd predating the Triumph TR8 by more than 15 years, t least 2 Warwicks had their Triumph engine replaced by the aluminium Buick 215ci V8. These cars were shown to American investors, ut failed to stir up enough interest, nd soon Warwick ground to a halt as well, fter producing only 39 cars. Some additional Phase 2's were later made by individuals from leftover Peerless components sold at auction. More than 70 Peerless and Warwick GT's are known to have been imported into North America, oth by dealers, nd several individual owners. Many are still around today, everal are being restored, nd a few are being vintage raced. About this car I've owned this car for over 20 years and have decided that it's time to offer to someone else. As you can see, his car will be a project - It was damaged while in storage before I purchased it - most of the damage was to fibreglass parts which can be rebuilt. It was last on the road in the 1970's. The car is fairly complete and has been in dry storage while I've owned it. Restore it, r remove the body and build something like the Ambro Peerless, r the Peerless-Squire. The good -
- This is a very early Peerless - #34, nd substantially complete.
- It has the original Triumph engine, TS 35023E, nd the engine turns freely.
- 4 speed transmission with overdrive on 2nd, rd & 4th gears.
- Mallory dual point distributor
- All glass is present except forthe rear window.
- Interior is mostly complete, headliner looks usable.
- I procured a door & window from England to replace the damaged one.
- The engine, riveline and interior have not been dissembled or removed.
- The fiberglass body needs lots of repair. This is very doable for anyone with experience repairing or fabricating fiberglass. While the damaged pieces are all included, fabrication will be required.
- The 1" square tube frame is mostly in decent shape, ut there are a couple sections that have damage or rust and will need replacement.
- The rear window will need to either be sourcedor fabricated from Plexiglas. (they have sometimes been available from the Peerless register in England.)
- The existing side fuel tanks are in poor shape - replacements can be fabricated, r a fuel cell fitted in the boot.
- The top of the rear fins were removed long ago, eaving round top fenders instead, bit more like the Aston Martin DB.

Peerless owners: I have a bunch of documentationon Peerless & Warwick cars in North America, ncluding literature, orrespondence, hotos, nd even an 8mm movie shot in the factory and in London. Much of this is from the North American Peerless & Warwick Register, hich was originally started by John Tyner in the 1970's and 80's, nd I took it over from him in the 90's and found more cars. From this info, created a database of known NA cars, nd have tried to keep it updated with information on pubic sales. I can list some info on 70+ cars in North America at some point in time. This info is not included in the sale, ut as I am selling my car, would like to find a good home for the register information, here it can be shared with other Peerless owners. A couple pics are included in the PhotoBucket link above. Message me via eBay for more info.
