Description

FIRST - WHY AM I SELLING? Those of you who have been following my sales already know this, ut for you others: I am about to turn 71, nd according to my doctor - my back is shot! Just sold off my 1960 Alfa Romeo spider; my Porsche 944 S2; my MG-TD and my MG-B. It is now time to sell my Borgward, nd shortly I will be sellingmy Fiat Multipla and my Nash Healey,,,,, I am at that age where (I can't believe I am about to say this) - I NEED A BUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(or at least my back needs a Buick)! OMG!

So,my cars are goingand need to sell. They are allbeing listed with NO RESERVE!

PAINT: Repainted – see details below.

CHROME: Varies - some of it is good, ome shows age consistent with it being a car from 1958. (The four hubcaps are new) Again, ee details below

ENGINE: Excellent condition.

I have reason to believe that I am but the 3rd owner of the car, hough I can not conclusively prove that. As I understand it, he first owner was a man in New Jersey. It then sold, round 1988, o a gentleman I bought the car from. He lived near Colonial Williamsburg, nd when I bought the car it had been in storage for 23 years. Luckily, t was in a good garage and had aged rather well.

Apparently the car was originally white. The man in New Jersey did some minor body work on the car and did the GORGEOUS two tone repaint. (I have some old pictures of the car before it was painted, nd before the body work was done - the car was in good shape with some surface rust). What else he may have done at the time I do not know.

Before I bought the car, n order to get it driveable, he previous owners sons did a couple things:

A. Master cylinder kit

B. Rebuilt the carb, id a tune up, ew brake lines, uel lines, uel filter, tc.

C. Battery

D. Gas tank - cleaned, ipped, ined, epaired leaks and painted it.

WORK I HAD DONE ON THE CAR IN THE LAST TWO YEARS:

A. Four new white wall tires

B. Battery cables

C. Oil/filter; lube;

D. replace e-brake

E. replace axle boots

F. replace coolant hoses

G. Radiator check and flush

H. water pump rebuild; replace fuel pump

I. weld and fiberglass work underneath (there was some surface rust, ome small holes, tc., nderneath. These have been repaired). Underside is good now.

J. wheels have been sandblasted and repainted.

PAINT: A big thing is always the condition of the paint. The paint on this car is very, ery nice. If you look at the picture of the back of the car, elow the 32 in the license plate number, nd just above the bumper, ou will see an area a couple inches wide where the paint is off. Also, f you look at the second last picture, ou will see a couple scratches that are on the top of the car. Other than that, he paint, n my humble opinion, s pretty great - helped no doubt by the fact that it was off the road for 23 years and safely put away. All the sellers on ebay say how everyone loves their car when people see it, ut folks - this car truly is BEAUTIFUL.

CHROME: It has never been redone. It is pretty much as the chrome would be on any 50+ year old car. Some of it is nice, ome of it shows pitting. I HAVE A BUNCH OF PICTURES OF EACH INDIVIDUAL PIECE OF CHROME AND STAINLESS - IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE A SERIOUS BIDDER ON THIS CAR THEN PLEASE EMAIL ME AND I WILL SEE YOU ALL THE PICTURES. I have, n the limited number of pictures ebay allows, anaged to work in a picture of the worst of it - if you look at the picture of the back of the car, otice the extreme right side of the rear bumper. When I got the car there was a parking sticker on the bumper in that spot, hen I took it off the chrome underneath was a bit pitted/etc. - that picture shows it pretty well. The rest if normal, asically OK, 0 year old chrome. (And yes, hat "split" in the rear bumper is original - it was made in two parts)!!!

INTERIOR: Original.

Dash: The dash is very good.

Carpet: The carpet has its good points, nd its bad points. It appears to be done in a somewhat piece meal fashion - looks kind of like some pieces wore out and replaced, thers left original. It is OK, haven't felt compelled to do

anything about it even though I have shown this car at shows. It depends on what you want to do with the car,,,,,,,,,,

Seats: The driver's seat has multiple splits, nd the padding should be replaced. I've been driving it like this, ut you may want to have it redone. The passenger seat is much better - some splits, ut less and smaller. Back seat is good.

Headliner: good

Door cards: Good (there is a 1 1/2" split on the top part of the driver's side door card).

MISCELLANEOUS: Trunk good - there is a piece of carpeting back there. (Also note in one of the pictures there are some spare parts/manual back there too). The radio is inop.

GLASS and RUBBERS: Glass is great - rubbers are dry.

SUMMARY: A stunning looking car - GREAT color combination that shows well. New tires, ecent chrome. The car runs and drives well. And, very rare car in this country. By the way - this car is a 4 speed on the column. I hadn't driven one of these in the last 40 years - but it is simply a normal 4 speed pattern with a pull out and up reverse. Easy once you do it.

NOTE: Sports and Exotic, n their June 2013 issue, id a story on a sister car to this car - a red 1960 coupe. If you are unfamiliar with these cars, nd want to read more about it, heck out that article. I will try to post a link to the article, ut am not sure ebay allows that,,,,,,,,,,, o if you need help with this please contact me. http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2013/06/01/hmn_feature5.html

My car was given a follow-up short spot in the December 2013 issue.

EVALUATION: Tough to know what a car like this is worth since there are so very few in this country. When Hemmings Sports and Exotic did the article I mention above, hey also did a WHAT TO PAY. The had this car at aLOW of $25,000, and AVERAGE of $ 35,000 and a HIGH of $ 50,000. In my humble opinion (yes, know I am the seller, nd can therefore be considered a bit biased - LOL), think this car clearly is above average. But, he bidding is up to you,,,,,,,,, think I have it priced to go (so my old back can get is Buick)!!!!!!

If you have any questions please contact me. Thanks, Ray
