This 1934 Packard 1100 #703 Five-Passenger Sedan is likely to be one of the finest restored examples to be offered for sale in recent years. While the early history of this vehicle is unknown, it was part of the Nelson Collection in Tryon, North Carolina from the early 1960s until the late 1980s. When discovered and purchased by the current owner, it was an excellent and low mileage example that was complete and showed no signs of abuse, neglect or damage. After purchasing the Packard, he embarked on a no expense spared, frame off restoration. After completion, the car scored a First Primary Award as well as the highly competitive Senior Award from the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) and the car retains its Senior Badge #2133S affixed to the cowl. Since being restored, the car has been regularly used, maintained and stored in a climate controlled, museum-type environment.
Today, the restoration remains in like new condition. The car was professionally repainted in the original 1934 colors of Swiss Green #1 and Swiss Green #4 accented by a Packard-correct, Valentine Silver Stripe. The paint remains in virtually new condition showing no signs of bubbling, cracking or shrinkage. All four doors fit the body with even gaps and margins throughout. The doors and hood align properly with the body, cowl and radiator shell. The interior of the car was expertly restored in period correct wool fabrics, which are accented by polished wood trim and garnish moldings. All of the interior components are in like-new condition. The dashboard retains all of its proper instruments and controls that are also in like new condition.
Mechanically, the vehicle runs and drives excellent. It retains its original, 319.2 cid, 120 horsepower, straight eight engine (#376427) which starts easily, idles well, and propels the car down the road with speed and power. The steering, braking and suspension components are tight and solid. The engine bay and chassis were fully restored at the time of restoration and are extremely clean and properly detailed. This car is ready to be driven or shown with confidence.
This car is equipped with the Packard-accessory dual side mounted spare tires with metal covers and rear view mirrors as well as an original, Packard script luggage rack. The firewall mounted, Packard data plate shows the vehicle number as 703-1378.
1934 Packard’s are considered to be benchmark models by today’s most knowledgeable collectors. They represent a highpoint in Packard engineering and design. They are easy to drive and considered to be proven tour cars by collectors who drive their classics.
This Packard is being offered for sale at a reasonable price, which is far less than the cost of restoration. For more information, please contact: David Weber (314) 941-3244 or email Dave@stlouiscarmuseum.com
