Packard History:
Introduced in 1924 models, the Packard straight-eight engine marked the beginning of a new era for both its esteemed manufacturer and the American prestige automobile. Led by the legendary Col. Jesse Vincent, Packard engineers had created a powerful, durable and nearly vibration-free inline eight. Combining this superb engine with the styling verve and elegance that set the marque apart in the later 1920s, the Packard Eight fairly defined the attributes of the cars we know today as Classics.
In 1931, further improvements were made; the Eights adopted the valve and manifold setup of the 734 Speedster and in doing so broke the magic 100 horsepower mark.
The 833 Phaeton is on a 134.5 wheelbase. It has a three speed gear box. The Eighth series models are equipped with a vacuum-operated chassis lubrication system. Under the bonnet is an 8 cylinder engine that produces 100 horsepower which was an increase in power by 10 over the prior year. The Standard 8 engines have a displacement size of 319 cubic inches. There are 11 body style options on the 833.
