Sunroof SELLER REMARKS Despite its high-visibility paint and spoilers. scoops. and stripes. the guy who built this 1972 Plymouth Scamp didn't want to tell everyone all his secrets up front. and it is. indeed. much more than meets the eye. This is a serious street brawler with a ton of upgrades. all designed to make it both a joy to drive and to show. Chrysler engineers were clever guys and they knew that to keep performance alive. they had to downsize the cars to match the downsized engines. That's the idea behind this cool little Scamp. because taking weight out is the same as putting horsepower in. The good news is that this car was treated to a very high-quality restoration. and given the bargain prices you see on these cars. that's really rare all by itself. The Hemi Orange paint sure isn't subtle. but it gives the car a tough look that's pure Mopar tradition. right down to the bumblebee stripe around the tail. Fit and finish are very good and those black stripes were painted on and buried under the clear. so it really has a slick look. The super-aggressive hood was a favorite Mopar look throughout the muscle car era and details like the chin spoiler and Go-Wing out back transform the economy-minded Scamp into something far more intimidating. Nice chrome and stainless trim accentuates the bright orange paint. so it looks like the factory intended. They did a pretty good job of disguising the Scamp's economy car roots inside. where you'll find a bench seat doing a decent impression of buckets. with two high backrests separated by an armrest. The vinyl upholstery is in excellent condition. replaced not too long ago and the carpets are brand new. They also used a lot of sound-deadening materials. so it's comfortable to drive and the cleverly integrated Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo sounds pretty darned good. The factory gauges are joined by a cool three-gauge setup under the center of the dash. which includes a big tachometer that's easy to see and the original woodgrained dash is in good condition. The slick Hurst shifter for the TCI 904 3-speed automatic transmission was just added. and you'll note that it also sports a Gear Vendors overdrive. so long highway drives are never an issue. There's also a sunroof overhead. a nice addition that really brightens up the all-black interior and the trunk is neatly finished and includes a full-sized spare tire. You could get a 340 in your Scamp. but this one now sports a bigger 360 cubic inch mill that's been heavily fortified with the good stuff. At a glance. it might look pretty stock. but under those cool finned aluminum valve covers there are aluminum heads painted to match the block. a cool stealth move. Up top there's a Weiand intake and an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. both hidden under a stock-appearing air cleaner. Stock exhaust manifolds feed a great-sounding Magnaflow dual exhaust system. so there's no hiding that this car has got some horsepower. The aforementioned transmission and overdrive unit feed a built rear end with 3. 55 gears and a Sure Grip limited slip inside. offering a great combination of acceleration and highway-friendly road manners. The stance is exactly right. too. featuring polished Torque Thrusts that carry 215/70/14 front and 245/60/15 rear white-letter radials. Affordable performance defined the Scamp then and now. and this one packs one heck of a lot of go for not a lot of dough.
