It's probably impossible to talk about this cool black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am without mentioning Smokey and the Bandit, ut the fact of the matter is that these were still true muscle cars, ven in the dark days of the late 1970s. Unlike posers such as the Mustang II and even the Trans Am's stable-mate, he Camaro, he guys at Pontiac were still building legitimate horsepower. These cars are finally coming into their own as legitimate collectors' items, nd given the wide variety of pretty blah colors in the 1970s, etting one in glossy black is always the right choice. This one was repainted in 1982 and still looks spectacular with only minor signs of age and use, one of which detract from the overall look. They used correct code 19 Starlight Black paint and fresh blue decals, nd it looks as dazzling today as Burt's car did rolling out of the trailer, ausing Jerry Reed to exclaim, Ho ho ho!" when he first laid eyes on it. The finish is lustrous, he reproduction decals are exact in every way, nd as car that's always been someplace warm, he original body panels are super straight. Go ahead, ook at this car and tell me you can't see it spinning its tires all over those southern highways. There's even a little stub of an antenna on the deck lid, aybe just a reminder of the good old days of CB radios. This one also sports a black vinyl interior, hich is 100% original and 100% amazing. With just some gentle use marks on the seat covers and a small tear in the driver's seat, he buckets are just as comfortable as they look. The carpets are still dark, he door panels show virtually no wear, nd the dash pad hasn't been baked by the sun over the past three and a half decades. Engine turned panels dress up the instruments, hich give a complete view of the engine's operation, nd remarkably enough, verything works including the clock! This is a legitimate performance car, ecause there's a 4-speed shifter in the center console, ust a few inches from the fat leather-wrapped steering wheel. I'm guessing Burt's car was an automatic, espite the soundtrack suggesting otherwise. You also get a modern AM/FM stereo radio in the center stack and a nicely finished trunk that still holds the original space-saver spare with inflator kit.Next to the Corvette, he most potent machine in America was the Trans Am, hanks to the Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8 under the hood. Nicely detailed, ut not so the originality was buried, t shows careful maintenance since it was new and most certainly the hands of caring owners who knew they were keepers of a very special flame. There are no modifications, ot even to the hood scoop, hich was more cosmetic than functional. It does, owever, ave a modern dual exhaust system that sounds great and surely frees up a few extra horsepower along the way. The transmission and original rear end have never been opened, ust kept in top condition with regular fluid changes. The suspension is surprisingly capable, nd there were few other cars better suited to getting out of trouble than the Trans Am. The floors on this one remain in good order, he suspension and brakes are tight, nd those beautiful Rally II wheels wear recent 225/70/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials.Go back and watch the movie, nd I think you'll find both the film and the car have aged pretty well. This T/A is a heck of a lot of fun and will make you an instant celebrity anywhere you go. Call today!
