PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CAR IS NOT FOR SALE TO CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS DUE TO STATE EMISSIONS CONTROLS - OUT OF STATE BUYERS OR DEALERS ONLY

Please note that experience shows us that the photobucket of over 100 large pixel pictures posted here are in most cases best viewed and downloaded using the very latest and most updated version of the 'Firefox' browser as some other browsers and especially older browser versions are not capable of accommodating the size of the download. Over the years our clients have overwhelmingly been appreciative of our many unaltered large pixel photos posted in our ads and our feedback has been that it is very rare that a dealer will post all but the most flattering of professionally finished photographs. We prefer to post the many photos taken of the car, n sometimes unflattering but natural sunlight, n order for our prospective buyers to be able to see true and reliable images of the car advertised and that is the reason for some seemingly duplicated shots. We trust you will agree.

West Coast Classics are proud to present a very collectible example of this 1980 2nd generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Am and a very rare Official Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Special Edition; one of only 5,700 Pace Car editions built after Pontiac was selected in 1980 to lead the Memorial Day running of the Indianapolis 500 race, nly the second time that Pontiac has been selected to perform the pace car duties, ith the first time having been back in 1958! This year also marked the first time ever that the same car was selected as the pace car for both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500 in the same year. Pace car decals used a larger 5 color hood bird and the Turbo 4.9 logo on the bulge of the hood, ffset to the drivers side to accommodate the turbocharger and hood mounted three light system for the turbo-boost light gauges. The Indy 500 door decals for the side fenders and the rear tail spoiler were an extra cost option which this particular example has. The interior still boasts its all original and very striking trim with its original custom 'Oyster' vinyl bucket seats with 'Hobnail' inserts with the 'Firebird Bird' embroidered on the center of the rear seats and on the front portion of the door panels. The rest of the interior is its original 'Oyster White' with a charcoal grey dash and center console. The car also boasts its original special extended range AM/FM stereo with cassette deck featuring a digital display with red lights! All the gauges on the instrument panel were lit in red, feature that would become standard for Pontiac cars by the end of the decade. The pace cars were all fully equipped and powered by Pontiac's proudly declared 'Worlds only Turbocharged V8', the Turbo charged 4.9L 301 c.i. engine and this is one very fine and unmolested all original example and it is easy to see why it is considered the 'Last Trans Am with a Pontiac Soul' by Trans Am enthusiasts!
In 1969, he first of the fire-breathing Firebird Trans Am's, amed after the Sports Car Club of America's late 60's Trans-American racing series, ebuted as a Firebird $725 option package and boasted a potent Ram-Air 400 V8 with heavy duty suspension, teering and brakes and was fated to be a one year only model which went on to keep the Pony Car flame burning strong throughout the 70's virtually all by itself, hen most of the other muscle cars either disappeared or dropped their engine displacements! Pontiac had no part in that sell out for its high performance Trans Am motors during the 70's and maintained 400 or 455 cid V8's even as the Corvettes and Camaros dropped to 350 cid and the Mustang down to 302 cid by mid decade.
1981 was to be the last year of the 2nd generation Trans Am and Pontiac wanted to end this ultra successful run with a bang, o in 1980 GM released a limited production Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Edition and in 1981 a NASCAR (Daytona Pace Car) edition. Like the NASCAR edition and the 1979 '10th Anniversary Edition', he 1980 'Indy Pace Car Edition' had a two-tone paint scheme with a dealer installed option of lots of wild door decals and pinstripes and a windshield PONTIAC decal in white lettering on the top of the windshield to give the car the authentic Pace Car look. This 1980 Indy 500 Pace Car edition was an exact replica of the Trans Am that paced the 1980 Indy 500 race - with the official Pace Car related decals optional but available if desired. One other highly striking component of the Pace Car edition were the sharp set of white 15x7.5" turbo cast aluminum wheels! The Pace Car edition, with the exception of the exterior door handles and door locks, id not have any exterior chrome, ost trim pieces were painted white and this look would remain popular amongst performance cars throughout the entire 1980's.
The Pace Car edition was way ahead of its competition in handling thanks to its standard beefy WS6 'Special Performance Package' suspension ($481 option) which included 4 wheel disc brakes, well tuned suspension and P255-70R15 performance radial tires mounted on the turbo cast wheels. The result was a large Trans Am that was nimble on its feet! The interior boasts the familiar Trans Am metal dash and Pontiac Formula steering wheel.
The Pace Car edition came standard with most Trans Am options, lthough this particular example is also fully loaded with added and desirable factory options, hich also include the highly desirable Y85 package with machine turned silver shifter bezel. With only 5,700 edition's produced, hey were a hot seller right from the start, with many dealers selling them for well over the sticker price! Although production for the legendary Trans Am marque ended in 2002, rom a purist's standpoint, he last true Trans Am in tune with the original Trans Am spirit ceased production in 1981 with the 2nd generation (1970-81), ade famous by the 1977 and 1980 'Smokey and the Bandit' movies. GM retired the 301 CID 4.9L Turbo in 1981 and in 1982 the Trans Am had to make so with same Chevrolet small block found in Camaro models from 1982-2002.

This particular 1980 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Edition has its full PHS documentation and was obviously the pride and joy of its previous owners for many years and which was also obviously always garaged. It was sold to us as having 39K actual miles which would seem obvious considering it still boasts its original interior which is quite unspoilt and indicative of such low miles. The car was obviously always well cared for and is remarkably unabused for a Trans Am!
The paint is in quite exceptional condition with only some very minor imperfections, f any, nly noticeable upon close inspection. The very striking 'Oyster with Hobnail inserts' interior is in all original and very clean condition throughout with no signs of major wear and every option is working.
This particular model must be driven to be fully appreciated - the car drives as good as it looks with no shakes or rattles with the considerable power of it's 4.9 litre 301 Turbo V8 engine! There are no noticeable oil leaks, the transmission shifts smoothly through the gears and the temperature always remains cool.
This is one very unique and rare and ridiculously attractive car and this must surely be one of the few unabused example's left available of this 1980, he penultimate year of the legendary 2nd generation Trans Am, rue limited edition Indy 500 Pace Car (1 of only 5,700 produced)! A fully documented and never abused example complete with PHS documentation!
