Rarity and exclusivity are just two of the adjectives used to describe this spectacular 1989 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans-Am 20th Anniversary Indy 500 Pace Car. Pontiac only made this model in 1989 specifically to pace the 73rd Indy 500. Total production numbered 1,555 units and GM kept 5 of them and sold 1,550 to the public. This is #1,221 of the 1,555 ever made. This example is highly original with only the battery and tires being replaced.
I bought this one with 1,968 miles and it currently has 2,100 original miles on the dot, ot a typo. I am the 2nd owner and it has been kept as a collector car since new. I am only selling because I don't drive it due to the extremely low mileage. It is 100% fully documented with the original owners kit, riginal window sticker, riginal door decals (the current ones are replicas to prevent using the originals), riginal books, anuals, nd keys, s well as the original promotional material, uild sheet, and PHS documentation. There is more documentation than what is pictured. Has a free and clear title in my name with no lien.
Under the hood it is all original aside from the battery. The hi-po 231ci turbocharged V6 engine from the Buick Grand National with the original Garrett intercooler and turbo is mated to the original Turbo-Hydramatic 200-4R four-speed automatic transmission. The car also features the WS6 performance suspension consisting of independent front suspension with MacPherson struts, oil springs and anti-roll bar, ive rear axle with trailing links and torque arm, our-wheel hydraulic disc brakes from the 1LE, nd 16"x8" Aluminum wheels.
As equipped, he new Trans-Am redefined the term "high performance" with 13-second quarter-mile times and top speeds exceeding 150 mph. It was the first unmodified car to pace the Indianapolis 500. Originally priced at $9,000 over the cost of the 5.7-liter GTA and with just 1,554 other examples produced, his 20th Anniversary Indy Pace-Car Trans-Am remains one of the rarest and desirable Pontiac's ever assembled.
Check the results from Barrett-Jackson and Mecum over the past few years, hese cars are getting attention and recognition by collectors with collector quality examples surpassing the $40k mark. Acquire this one without having to travel to an auction, ay for a hotel room, ay a bidder entrance fee, ay a 6-10% buyers premium, nd pay to have it shipped home!
It draws a crowd every time I take it out. Truly a unique and on the rise collector car from the 80's. Was featured in Winding Road Magazine with a photo andvideo shoot at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, I,invited to be shown at the Corvette and Muscle Car Nationals in Illinois, nvited to be shown at the Concours d'Elegance at St. John's in Plymouth, I, nd has won many awards and trophies at every car show I enter it into.
