Description

We know a few badges do not make a GTO, but there's so much to love about this 1967 Pontiac Lemans that you can't blame it for trying. Its original, matching-numbers 326 is under the hood and with that stance it'll be a hit at every show it attends. Clean is the right word to describe this sleek red hardtop. Obviously someone invested big in the bodywork, because it's straight enough to be measured with a micrometer. Some of the trim and the original Lemans badges were shaved and GTO badges installed in their place, but there's no harm in that. The hood scoop adds a dose of Pontiac sportiness and the stacked headlights were one of GM's better designs. The bright red paint is a big improvement over the original Platinum Mist and the sleek hardtop wears it well with a correct black vinyl top as specified on the cowl tag. That paint is beautifully buffed to a high shine which probably took hours and hours of laborious wet sanding. They clearly invested in the chrome, too, since it all shines like new (better than new, most likely) and while experts will note those aren't correct GTO grilles, the vertical strips of trim looks awesome. Unique taillights have a Pontiac look about them and it's nice to see that the car hasn't been over-dressed with accessories, wings, or stripes. You won't see many GTOs with bench seat interiors, but that's OK because in this Lemans, it's all new. The seat covers have simple vertical pleats as original and they match the door panels. Pontiac's European influence shows most clearly in the instrument panel, where four separate round pods house all the main gauges behind a simple 3-spoke steering wheel with bright aluminum accents. The original AM radio remains in place and while there aren't a lot of options, it's clear that someone invested a lot of time and money in making it one of the nicest A-bodies around. The ultra-clean trunk shows off its total lack of rust, further evidence that this car has always been someone's special machine, Lemans or not. The original, numbers-matching 326 cubic inch V8 under the hood looks and drives like it has been freshly restored. Turn the key and it's running with a crisp burble from the exhaust, and anyone who glances under the hood will be pleased to see Pontiac Turquoise paint and chrome valve covers, along with a bright Edelbrock air cleaner. Power brakes and steering and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission make it easy to drive and the dual exhaust with glasspack-style mufflers will keep you entertained on the road. Like the trunk, the floors are clean and with a slightly lowered stance, it sits right. 17-inch Torque Thrusts from American Racing wear appropriately-sized 225/45/17 performance radials that totally fill the wheel wells and add to the performance stance. Forget about pedigrees and names and you'll probably fall in love with this Lemans like we have. Sleek, beautifully finished, and with plenty of muscle, it stands above mere badges to be a wonderful car to drive that will attract a lot of attention at shows. Call today!
