To help revitalize the Pontiac performance image, GM collaborated with ASC McLaren in 1989 & 1990 to produce these one-of-a-kind Grand Prix's, the predecessor to the GTP.They aresaid to be the best Grand Prix's ever built for all-around performance.General consensus is that in 1989, only 750 were produced and 900 for 1990, split evenly between Red & Black cars. The cars came almost completely loaded with options. Notable standard equipment was the first 'Heads Up Display' for Pontiac. and an interior exclusive to this model that rivaled some of the finest cars available at that time. The 3. 1 litre engine was reworked by ASC. turbocharged & intercooled to produce 205hp & 225 ft/lb of torque. ASC also tweaked the transmission & suspension for better performance. When introduced, the car would run the 1/4 mile in the 15 second range & 0-60mph in the 7's and capable of sustained speeds in excess of 150 mph.
