Description
1970 Pontiac GTO Convertible A Rare 'Real Deal' GTO Convertible in Rare Sierra Yellow over Black A Nice Older Restoration With Lots of Paperwork Dating Back to the 90s Bucket Seats/Console. Power Top. 'Hang On' Air Conditioning & More Please Wait For All Pictures To Load! Offered for your consideration is this terrific 1970 GTO Convertible. owned by a very good friend of mine who is the proprietor of several high-quality automotive service centers throughout Augusta. He purchased this GTO from a friend a few years back and has not had the opportunity to enjoy it as much as he had thought. A few weeks ago. he asked me to help him move it around town. and then prevailed upon me to photograph the car and get it out on the market and on to a new home. a correct but non date code correct (there are no VIN stamps in the Pontiac V8 of this era) Pontiac 400 V8 coupled to a recently overhauled Turbo-Hydramatic TH400 3-speed automatic transmission (per documentation with the car) and 10 bolt GTO rear end. this GTO runs and drives quite well. 1970 was the second year for standard power front disc brakes on the GTO and this one is no exception. A terrific set of Pontiac Rally wheels and newer BFG Radial T/As complete the connection between this stunning GTO and the pavement. A funny thought that just crossed my mind - Sierra Yellow is about the only color you could have had on a GTO where the pollen in the air doesn't show after 5 minutes during April in Augusta! It was a warm and windy day here when I took these photos and the pollen was falling fast! I did not fasten down the soft boot for the convertible top as it needs to be tucked under the moulding - it does go. these just take a while to do. Per records that convey with the car. a light restoration of an otherwise good car was undertaken by the owner of a small GM dealership in Massachusetts sometime in the mid to late 1990s. They replaced. replated and refinished most of the exterior cosmetics and they did a terrific job. There's no apparent evidence that this was ever a rusty car - undercar photos follow farther down this page. Nice. clean and straight! The seats have likely been recovered. carpets and accessory mats are also newer and very nice. The uncracked original dash has a protective mat on it. No cracks! The instruments are very clean as well and all work - gas. speedo and tach. Odometer reads 48. 12. we assume the car has 148. 12 original. This was not a factory air car but has later 'hang on' air conditioning with a Sanden 508 compressor that blows ice cubes! The original AM/FM radio powers up and works well. a newer Pioneer deck is also in the glovebox. The power top switch works and the power top is one of the smoothest running Hydro-Electric tops I've ever encountered on this era GM car. More of the seats and original seat belts. The dash from right. the velcro strip for the dash mat on the dash is what is sticking up. Console is not cracked or broken either. Just a lovely car inside and out! Let's put the top on and see what she looks like! Great classic GTO lines top up or down! A beauty from any angle. This small tear is not all the way through and can be easily repaired by you or by us prior to delivery. It is only about 1. 5" in the right rear sail panel. The big 400 cubic inch V8 roars easily to life. cold starts well on choke and idles well warm. The engine bay sports an older detailing and still presents cleanly. The hang on A/C was done in 2003 - the Sanden compressor is super reliable and the air blows cold in this GoaT! Nice clean and dry under here as well! Undercoating and straight. rust free pans and chassis rails throughout. Note that the transmission is also nice and dry on the pan and side. This GTO has a nice set of custom duals that make a great rumble. they do not take away from the experience. Nice clean rust-free gas tank and 10 bolt rear end. likewise nice and dry on the outside. Nice clean pans and rails! Chassis is well-greased. bushings seem tight Brakes are also responsive and stop the car well without jerking or pulling. The cowl tag is just dirty here. sorry for not cleaning it off first. The VIN plate through the windshield - 242670P308203 - not sure why the last digit doesn't show in the pic! Unfortunately. YY indicates a 1973 Pontiac 400. but this one would seem to have been built for performance with a mild cam and an earlier intake and carb. It goes a lot better than a smog era 400. that is for certain. This is the clearest shot of this code I could get without pulling the distributor. payment/shipping Payment is expected within seven (7) days of auction close unless cleared with me in advance of any successful bid. Payment should be in the form of wire transfer or cashier's cheque cleared in my or the owner's account or cash on pickup. The owner is my consignor; we intend to proceed in a brokerage situation where I connect you to him at close of sale but if you need the assistance of my dealer license here in Georgia for whatever reason. we can run it through a dealership for a $300 doc fee. I don't see the need to do it that way. but if you do. it's your option to do it that way and pay an additional fee for those escrow and paperwork services. My reputation and feedback are always on the line and since I broker. buy. sell and trade collector cars for a living. I hope that would count for something. That being said. your successful winning bid is a contract to purchase. not to look or reneg unless car is substantially not as represented above (it's probably better than I've represented it. which has been my reputation for many years). Shipment from Augusta. GA either by picking the car up yourself and driving/towing home or using a commercial carrier should happen within fourteen (14) days of auction close unless cleared with me in advance of any successful bid. I can refer you to my preferred enclosed car carrier for nationwide delivery. you will get the "in the business" rate from him as we do so much business and referral work together. I would advise against shipping via open carrier but can refer you to a number of better open truck car haulers as well. Don't fall prey to anyone who offers you cheap carriage as they are usually inexperienced brokers who send bottom feeder haulers to pick up good cars - with predictable results. Contact me if you want 'car guy advice' and I'll freely give it to you. QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? CONCERNS? E-MAIL ME OR CALL 804-357-4926 (CELL)
