Description

I am the second owner of this vehicle and it has been in my possession for 35 years. As of this listing the odometer reads 37314 miles. Except for the rear fender flares the exterior paint and decals are original. Except for a new headliner the interior is original. It has seldom been driven in the rain and only once in snow. In warm weather months I keep it parked in the garage as much as possible. Every winter it has been stored in a garage or warehouse always on a concrete floor. It runs and drives like a dream.

The car is equipped with the Pontiac 400 engine (known as the L-78) with a manual 4 speed transmission. It was the last year that you could get this combination. It has four wheel disc brakes power steering and power windows. It has A/C but the freon leaked out of it some time ago. Note that it has a solid roof – there are no T-tops. The previous owner told me that he owned two Trans/Ams prior to this one and hated the T-tops because they always leaked. He also ordered the car without “the three miles of pinstriping” as he thought it cheapened the look of the car.

Although I have tried to keep the car as stock as possible some changes were made. Let me list them here:

Tires – came with P225/70R15 changed to P255/60R15.

Mud flaps – installed to keep rocks from doing damage to the body and rear fender flares.

Exhaust system - converted to true dual exhaust. Both pipes have catalytic converters installed. Still have the original y-pipe from the engine and the converter.

Radio - previous owner had removed the factory installed unit and put in a stereo from Craig. He is also the one responsible for the speakers cut into each side of the center console. I disconnected these speakers when I had an Alpine AM/FM/cassette player installed along with a power amp and graphic equalizer. However the Alpine stereo no longer works. I just get a low hum when I turn it on.

In 2010 I had some mechanical work done on the car. This included a tune up with a new set of wires battery fan belts hoses blower motor rear calipers pads & rotors master cylinder and front sway bar kit. I also had to replace the carburetor as it could no longer be adjusted on one side. I had an Edelbrock carburetor and intake manifold installed but still have the originals.

There are a few things on the car that could use some attention (see photos). They are:

Grille on the passenger side has some damage. I broke it last year when I was washing the car.

Small spots of surface rust on right rear fender. I have been watching this for several years and it has not gotten any worse.

Switch for glove compartment light broken off. I pulled the bulb from the plug.

Sill plate on passenger side has some deterioration.

This vehicle is being sold as is.

Well that’s about it. Send me an email with a phone number if you want to ask more questions.

A well-known appraiser in Buffalo has inspected this car three times over the years (1989 2009 and 2014). His last appraisal states that the car is in excellent original condition. He also states that this vehicle is rare because in 1979 only 879 Trans/Ams out of a total production of 16535 were equipped with the L-78 engine. He says that the car has an actual cash value for insurance purposes of $32500.

Payment requirements - $500 nonrefundable deposit to my Paypal account within 24 hours of winning the auction and payment in full within 7 business days. Payment types - certified or cashiers check personal check. All funds must clear before release of vehicle.
