The car is relisted due to the last buyer not having funds ready. After the auction is over or an offer is accepted a nonrefundable deposit of $500.00 is required within 24 hours.
This is a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am that has been externally converted to look like KITT (K.I.T.T.) from season 3 and 4 of Knight Rider. The car itself has a 305 V8 with an automatic transmission. Before I began the conversion I made sure to find a car that had a solid body inside and out and this one fit the bill. For starters this car had the proper options from the factory so I didn't have to swap body panels or piece together a Frankenstein-contraption. My ultimate plan was to stay as screen-accurate as I could. Details that this car came with from the factory include the proper cowl hood, ender vents on the side, nd front and rear ground effects. I decided to splurge on (too many) upgrades so I went with the screen-accurate 15" turbo-fin wheels instead of the 14" ones that just look weird. The nose came from Joe Penko Ontario Fiberglass Productions from Canada. He makes a lot of fiberglass upgrades for these conversions and they are definitely not the cheap noses you see floating around on eBay. The iconic scanner bar is from Joe Huth. His scanner bars are regarded as screen-accurate as you can buy. Today you can use LED lighting instead of the traditional 55w bulbs that I went with. However in my opinion the LEDs just don't look quite right. The electronic controller that drives the scanner bar out front is from Brenon Electronics. The controller has a lot of different light patterns built in, t even comes with a wireless remote and includes a single saying of "I am the voice of Knight Industry 2000's Micro processor, .I.T.T. for easy reference, ITT if you prefer." There is a marine speaker hidden in the nose and the audio input is inside the cab. If you're so inclined you can add in a bluetooth receiver and a small amplifier if you want and have it say prerecorded sayings from your phone. The fog lights in the front work as they should along with the small turn signals to keep it legal. Also the rear taillight blackout is held on with velcro so that can be removed while the car gets its vehicle inspection.
KITT related parts/upgrades:
The entire car has had a professional paint job to black. The only place to see the original color is in the engine compartment. Little door dings, icks, tc were all filled in and sanded. The radio antenna hole has been welded in and painted over. The rear wiper was removed along with the washer squirter on top of the car, ll filled in and smoothed over. It may not sound like much but it goes a long way in keeping to screen-accurate details.
Electronic scanner controller w/wireless remote
Red light bar in nose
Taillight blackout. This sits flush with the body and there are no screw holes. Clean looking.
Fiberglass nose modeled after season 3/4
Plastic reproduction bowling ball hubcaps. The originals are very hard to find and much more expensive than these and they fit exactly the same.
General car related parts/upgrades:
All the weather stripping has been replaced. On top of the car the T-top middle bar was removed and everything underneath was sanded down, ainted, nd sealed. The headliner in the car is in great shape as I would guess it has sat inside most of its life. As you can see by some of the pictures I can send you, his car was really stripped down to a point to do a through conversion. It even has a brand new windshield and sealant.
New within the last year:
Tires
Bushings
Shocks/struts
Eibach lowering springs front and rear. This doesn't make it a low rider, t just makes it have a nice looking stance. Handles nice too.
Brake lines
Brake pads
Rotors
Wheel bearings
Power steering pump
Windshield
Paint
All weatherstripping
Front/rear speakers
Head lights
Tail light bulbs
All side/marker lights
General car info:
Approx 120k miles on car
Power steering
Power drivers seat
Power side mirrors
Power windows
305 ci v8 motor
TH200C automatic transmission
The bad:
The speedometer does not work. It will be an easy fix for the next time the transmission gets serviced though.
The front seats and mainly the drivers seat are in poor shape. Having said that this car did a 2200 mile road trip and was still pretty comfy. If you want to change the color of the interior to tan/beige then it won't be much of an issue. I have seen kits online that can replace every panel inside to the correct color if you're so inclined. However the rest of the interior like the headliner are in very good shape for the age of the car.
The steering wheel isn't straight. Although the car tracks straight as an arrow I never got around to getting the steering wheel straightened out.
Although all four speakers are brand new I don't have a stereo in the car. If this is an issue we can discuss this further if you'd like.
I haven't done much to the engine however it seems to run strong. It does seep some oil from around the valve cover gaskets. On a recent 2200 mile road trip it used surprisingly little oil.
The good:
If I don't mind saying so I think this is such a cool car and I get thumbs up and looks all the time. Even having said that the other thing I love is that the A/C is ice cold! Everything with the A/C system in the engine compartment is brand new and filled with r134a. So if you have to get approval from your wife or girlfriend to buy this awesome car one of the selling points is when you drag them along for a ride you can at least treat them to some air conditioning.
You can see how much work went into this conversion. This car was on my automotive bucket list and I fulfilled my goal. I've enjoyed it and its now onto the next owner. If you have any questions please let me know.
If you'd like to see additional pictures of KITT and some of the build process including a short video walk-around, lease contact me and I'll send you the link.
The car is sold as is and with no warranty.
Thank you for looking.
