Description
Porsche now has a lot of 'GTS' models. But the 928 GTS was the original. and was the Porsche model that senior management at Porsche primarily used as their 'daily driver' on the streets and autobahn during the mid-late 1990's. Approximately 180 mph top speed. 350 hp and torque. combined with incredible chassis rigidity and strength made it the comfortable and safe high speed touring car they preferred. The '94 and '95 models have several features not present in the '93 models (such as cabin air filter. forged engine connecting rods. significantly improved transmission shift control. etc. ). And. they do not seem to have the oil consumption issues that some of the earlier cars experienced. This specific car is a mid model year production. built in December 1993. and was a unique GTS when purchased. It was the ONLY 1994 Porsche 928 GTS exported to the US with the very expensive 'rootwood' interior ($5k option). Many automobile enthusiast magazine articles have termed the Porsche 928 GTS the 'ultimate' Grand Touring automobile of the 20th century. It still looks and drives beautifully in the 21st century as well!It is a two owner car that has been meticulously maintained and is in absolutely pristine condition. The original purchaser - a TX oil company owner - was very wealthy. and maintenance costs were 'no object'. These ran ~$40K over the final 10 years of his 12 year ownership. The present owner (9 years. 77 years old) is a retiree with an employment history in physical sciences and engineering. He is also a lifelong automobile hobbyist with a passion for maintaining and improving the automobiles he owns. As such. he has a 4 car 'hobby' garage fully equipped. including a lift. The car has rarely been driven in the rain. and never in the snow or winter until roads are washed clear of salt during the time it has 'lived' in PA. NO ONE who sees the car believes it is 21 years old and has anywhere near 83K miles on the odometer (I don't think there is a single stone chip in the paint). The owner is frequently asked "is that new?". The 'annual' average mileage is about 4K. which is appropriate to keep the seals etc. of the engine/chassis in good condition. The options on this car are too numerous to list ( e. g. the seats it now has would have been listed as seven different options on the build sheet had they been installed at the factory). There have been several tasteful modifications that enhance the appearance and driving enjoyment added as well (e. g. the expensive custom built raised center glove box/armrest. leather covered padded door armrests. home link rear view mirror with compass & 3 door openers. etc. ). It comes with Porsche wheels (Sport Design 2 piece with Michelin PS2 tires) that are shown in the pictures. and with a set of Porsche Cup II wheels with no curb rash or blemishes (and nearly full tread Michelin Pilot Sport tires) that were OE on the late '94 GTS's. Nearly all items that were removed in the modifications have been kept and are easily replaced for a full concours quality car. The original seats were the basic 8 way power in black and are not included. The replacement seats are supple leather. heated. with 12 way power (includes lumbar: in/out;up/down) in Porsche's 'cork' color. To fully appreciate this car. and the work that has been done to make it such an attractive and unique car. along with a list of the modifications. please copy this link and paste it into your browser: http://rennlist. com/forums/928-forum/864943-1994-porsche-928-gts-for-sale-black-cork-unique. html . This web site is populated by Porsche 928 aficionados. many of whom have known the car for 7 or 8 years. The current owner is a nearly 20 year member of Porsche Club of America. a charter member of the international 928 Owners Club. and has been Treasurer of that club for 10 years. Full records from the independent shop used by the original owner for maintenance from 1996 until 2005. as well as all the work the current owner has done to the car in his 9 years of ownership are included. along with complete owners manual/documents delivered with the car. The title is clear. and the CarFax is clean. The original MSRP window sticker. and copies of the original TX title and the current PA title are available as well. There has never been a lien on the car. If I were to drive the car across the US tomorrow. all I'd do before departing is check the tire pressures and fill the tank with fuel! Please contact me via e-mail with any questions. I also have several dozen other pictures The car is for sale locally. and also advertised on other venues. so it will be removed from this auction if it sells before the conclusion. (unless. of course. the 'Buy it Now' option is exercised). Oh yes - the 'TONKA' on the rear reflector represents my sense of humor. TONKA is a boy's best toy isn't it? A brand new reflector is included in the sale if TONKA doesn't fit for you. I am only selling because I do not drive it enough. About 1500 miles per year over the past 3 years. Ferry Porsche (son of the founder of Porsche) said it best "our cars are meant to be driven. not polished". This car needs to be driven more than I am driving it - but. it IS highly polished! There has long been a recommendation within the Porsche 928 community to anyone who is interested in buying one of these cars. It is "Buy the best maintained car you can afford". IF you can find a 928 GTS that has been better maintained than this one. I highly recommend that you buy IT. I have full confidence in the quality and reliability of this car. It has never failed to provide totally reliable transportation at any time during my 9+ years and ~25K miles of ownership. But. as with any car that is 21 years old and privately sold. there is no warranty implied or provided. I WILL assist any distant buyer by a providing transport from Philadelphia airport. nearby train stations. pickup by their transporter. etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PS: Had a question about damage that required the painting from comment on the Rennlist link above. NO damage - just some small paint chips or scratches on those panels that bugged me. Wanted it perfect. After those panels were refinished. the entire body was lightly wet sanded with 3000 grit then hand polished. Car spent 3 months at the 'spa' to get it's outer surface perfected!! Also. I see AutoCheck shows two titles for West Chester PA. Those are both mine! In PA. when a car becomes 15 years old. it is eligible for a "Classic' registration. which has economic advantages in terms of annual inspection costs and it no longer needs to be registered annualy. For that. it must re-titled as a classic - which I did in 2009. Thus two titles in PA and one for the original owner in TX (by the way. I question their 'auto auction' listing in 1994 with 30 miles on the odometer. as the car was delivered to Momentum Porsche. and the first owner purchased it directly from that dealer). Two interesting 'stories' related to 928's for those who aren't familiar with their extraordinary build quality and capabilities: In the late 1980's. I had a business and good personal relationship with Hans Mezger of Porsche Weissach research and development facility. Hans was head of new engine development for street and racing Porsches. He is credited with the design or approval of design on the original 911. 928. 917 racing engines. the GT3 engine of the early 2000's. along with several others. When I asked him and his associate at lunch one day what 'used' Porsche I should buy. they had a 5 minute conversation and recommended two of the cars Porsche had made up to that time. A specific model of the iconic rear engine car. and the 928. Saying those were the two best cars Porsche had made. Each owned one of these. A few years later. I bought the first of the six 928's I've owned in the past 20 years. There is a fair bit more to this story that I'll relate to the winning bidder when the title is transferred. Two of those 928's I've owned I drove to. from. and on more than a dozen race tracks throughout the eastern US and Canada over 13 years (participating in the Porsche Club of America Drivers Education program for High Performance Driving). The first was an automatic '88 S4. The car was FAR superior to what I'd expected 'on thr track'. There are 6 run groups in the PCA program. and I progressed (slowly) through the first 5. (the 6th is for instructors. and I did not want that responsibility). Occasionally. after a session on the track during which I'd passed several of the iconic air cooled cars of a vintage similar to my '88. the drivers would come to where my car was parked (it was the only 928 at most events). and talk a bit about cars and driving. When they looked in my car. then asked "is that an automatic?". and I said "Yes it is". they looked shocked. I must admit that I had to bite my cheek many times to keep from appearing smug! I don't think they expected to find that the dentists wife's car (as owners of air cooled Porsches frequently called the 928 when it was new). which was being driven by a man eligible for medicare could possibley be faster on a race track than their 'authentic Porsche Sports Car'! Those memories will last me for the rest of my life!!
