Early 911s embody a combination that is rare among collector cars today. They have unparalleled drivability and usability, especially when compared with other cars of the same vintage They have a fanatical following. Especially the 1972, the only year for the oil filler door on the right rear quarter panel. This was the only year for this feature. For many years, however, they were just used cars, which makes finding genuinely solid examples which have been continuously cared throughout the car's life difficult today. Especially cars with low miles and largely original interiors and drivetrain. All early 911s have appreciated tremendously in recent years and the late cars (1972 and 1973), which are fitted with 2.4 liter engines, are the ultimate development of the 'long hood' 911.

Cosmetically, the car is an attractive driver. The paintwork is not original. The panel fit is good on balance, although the driver door was opened overly wide due to a broken door strap. This is easily fixed on repaint. The car has the original orange bar hood crest. The chrome and brightwork are generally nice, although there is some pitting on the horn grilles. The top is original and due to low mileage is still in very good condition with a good fit at the windshield header and free of rips and tears.

The car runs and drives well. It is still very strong running and pulls very well. The car does not smoke and starts quickly hot or cold. Tires are nearly full tread and “in date”. Transmission shifts well including synchros into first gear. Brakes are recently serviced. Drive for years while you restore.

The interior has excellent upholstery and carpets. Especially considering they seem to both be original to the car. The dashboard is in excellent shape aside from two small cracks between the speaker grill and defroster vent. The speaker grill is in unusually good condition. The door panels themselves are missing the door pockets. Thanks to low miles the seat bottoms still have most of the factory tucking.

The engine compartment is quite clean and tidy with the original MFI system in place and operating well. The trunk has correct type carpet, apparently original and is in good structural condition. As with the floors the trunk pans show no rust and have never been replaced in our opinion. The car has been converted to a more practical single battery but still has the cables for the 2nd battery.

This is a great opportunity to acquire a nice driver level matching numbers (both engine and transmission) 911T Targa that has solid original floors and trunk panels showing no rust. The car when new was treated to a Ziebart rust proofing service. This is probably why the car is, all these years later, a nice un-rusty car. The car has few owners from new (believed to be 3) with the last two from the same family. (Last 38 years). This is more than likely why the car has no leaks and runs so strong.

In the absence of copious records we look hard at the car to determine if it is really low miles. Here are some of the clues strongly suggesting very low miles:

Steering wheel excellent A+ original condition

Original keys

Door locks still original and still work with the original ignition key

Original visors still like new

Floors are original and in beautiful condition

Trunk floor pans are original and in excellent rust free condition
