Description

This 914 has 20,880 original, documented miles. When almost new, it was converted to 283 Chevy power by Chicago area engineer and inventor Lenard Morrison, and remained within a group of owners and friends centeredaround David Cooper, owner of Cooper Technica, a Chicago restoration shop specializing in pre-war Alfa's, Tatra's, Delahaye, etc. (coopertechnica.com), until a few years ago. I purchased it in 2014, re-worked the front suspension with 911 parts, (Carrara frontsup., 4-pot Brembo's, 7 by 16 Fuch's, etc), and backdated the big rubber bumpers with a lighter set from 1974. I installed at 383in. Chevy, by found it wasn't fun to drive, as it had so much torque it was instantly at red-line, and way over the speed limit. I started over with a built 283, which was more "drivable", but still too much. Thinking about going the six cylinder route, I wasdismayed at the $20K I'd end up spending on a decent 911 engine, oil tank, carbs, etc. The Honda 3.5 V-6 looked like a good alternative: light weight, modern design, variable cam timing, ECU controlled, no oil leaks, more power than a good 3.2 911 engine. It has proven to be very quick, sounds great, is easy on gas, and they seem to last forever, and finally something I can wind up thru the gears like the six I had years ago. The body is very solid and original, has never been hit, and I felt too nice to cut and flare, so it's a real sleeper, except to those recognize the Fuch's, or the 914-6 tag. The car is in excellent shape; no floor orlongitudinal rust, good hell-hole. Only rust I found is a 1in. dia. area behind the rear bumper, which I treated and sealed. This car has always been someone's baby, and has lived indoors most of her life, hence the 21K miles. Suspension is tight and firm, without being uncomfortable, and it starts and runs like a modern car. Here are the details:BODY:Black Glasurit paint, overall very nice, but with the wear of 13K miles, small nicks and scratches. The original heavy rubber bumpers were swaped for a 1974 light weight set, with good rubber caps. (original bumpers included if wanted). Side marker lights were shaved, N.O.S. 914-6 tag added. New 914 Rubber seals installed on front and rear trunk, and inner bulkhead. Floor pan, longs, hell hole in excellent condition.INTERIOR:Interior is in great original condition, non-cracked dash top, stock gauges, with tach re-set for 6-cyl., and anti-bounce needle mod done. Oil pre., and coolant temp gauges added inashtray mount. Shifter is new RennShifter 915 style. Seats are custom set made from stock, with black leather covers, andretaining the original sliders, very supportive and comfortable. A kill switch is added, mounted on the lower speaker grille, (new speakers in doors). 13 in.Moms steering wheel.SUSPENSION & BRAKES:Complete front end from a 1987 Carrara, withupgraded Boxter Brembo calipers, and 24mm rotors. 19mm Master Cyl. and S.S. braided lines all around, rear brakes are re-builtstock 914, and retain working parking brake. 930 Turbo tie rods, stock 914-4 front sway bar, steering rack spacers installed for the lowered ride height. 7 by 16in. OEM Fuch alloy's, with new Dunlop Direzza 205/45/16 tires. Rear shocks are new Bilstien threaded perch coil-overs, with 180 lb. springs Trailing arms have had the boxed kit welded on, and have new Elephant bronze bushings. Car has been reasonable lowered, and received a careful full alignment. 911 rear hubs, and Renegade heavy duty axles, with 108mmbig CV joints complete the driveline.COOLING SYSTEM:A radiator from a 1966 Corvette is fitted, and fully shrouded, with a 16india. Jaguar electric fan. Coolant runs up and back on each side of the car, so underside is clean and stockappearing. All high points have custom made aluminum junctions, with bleed nipples, so it is easy to eliminate any air bubbles, and the car runs aconsistent 180 deg. This is the same system used with both the 283, and 383 Chevys, up to 459HP. Most all the hoses are new silicone, front and back.ENGINE & GEARBOX:2004 3.5 Honda V-6 all aluminum twincam, making 250HP, and 255 ft. lbs torque, new timing belt, water pump, plugs, intake and ex. gaskets, with ECU and wiring harness re-worked by V-Tech Performance. New Bosch 044 fuel pump with -8 S.S. lines to engine, and -6 return to tank, which has been cleaned and internally sealed. 10 micron fuel filter before engine. Exhaust is dual 2 1/2 in. 304 stainless tubing in OEM 1977 911S Letritz muffler. This engine makes excellent torque, runs cool, with great oil pre., and has 90K miles. New Kennedy Engineering adaptor plate, flywheel, and 9in clutch, T. O bearing used. Engine weighs around 360 lbs. dressed, about 200 lbs lighter than the Chevy's, and has a nice 6-cylinderexhaust bark, without any drone atcruise. Gearbox is a rebuilt stock 901 5-speed, with all new bearings, synchro's, and thebillet aluminum intermediate plate added. A new gear-reduction starter is used.MISC:Optima battery, with alloy hold down plate relocated in front trunk. Alpine radio, with retracting antenna.
