Description

A fabulous 1976 Porsche 912E Coupe, now for auction on eBay.com! One Year Only: 1976 Porsche 912E Coupe! Please wait a few moments while our high-resolution photos load.

Built for one year only, 1976, the year we celebrated America's bicentennial, a Porsche 912E is a rare bird indeed!

Looking just like its more powerful sibling, the 911, the 912E is powered by the Porsche 914's 2.0-liter, fuel injected, boxer engine.

This particular example, VIN*9126001925*, manufactured in June of 1976, is number 1925 of 2099 made. It looks to be well kept and has benefitted from some sensible upgrades made by its proud owner over the years.

Trunk is clean and dressed with a genuine Porsche square weave carpet kit, as used in the Porsche 356.

Date-coded spare has never been inflated; the vulnerable "nose" section is free of rust or accident damage.

Undercarriage is that of a well-taken-care-of California survivor, absolutely rust free.
The alloy wheels have been painted red on the inside. We like it!

Originally a white car, the previous owner opted to have his 912E refinished in this beautiful Merlot Red metallic color. Although there are some imperfections and signs of use here and there, there's nothing to distract from the Porsche's inherent beauty. We wouldn't mind driving it just as you see it here for many years to come.
Fuchs cookie cutter alloy wheels were an expensive factory option, back in 1976, and are in splendid condition.

Perforated Porsche headliner is undamaged, just a bit faded, due to its age.

Virtually indistinguishable from a Porsche 911 Carrera, the dash has received a new top, and an Alpine CD head unit.

A sport steering wheel has been added. All of the gauges work as they should, even the clock!
Odometer reads 086,565 miles, and that could even be the original mileage.

Burgundy leather seats are firm yet super comfy; a few seams have split and could be re-stitched, down the line.

Occasional rear seats are in a superb state of conservation.

This 912E wears the classic 1973-'74 ducktail decklid. It looks fast and fabulous!

The fuel-injected 2-liter Boxer starts on command and runs just great. Thanks to its 4-in-4-out sport exhaust, it sounds wonderful. Cost of maintenance is considerably lower than that of the bigger 911 engine.

Friday, September 30, was another fine day in San Buenaventura. We decided to head for the hills to test the 912E's mettle and take these photos. We were not disappointed.

The car starts, runs, drives, handles, and stops with aplomb. The Type 915 5-speed transmission shifts smoothly through all gears. The ideal commuter car, a 912E will cruise happily all day long at 80 mph @ 3,500 rpm while returning 30mpg.

Best of all, a 912E, as frugal as it is, looks every bit like the -- much costlier -- vintage 911!

Here's a bona fide collector car that can be used every day without worry. It qualifies for extremely reasonable classic car insurance, all parts to keep it running forever are readily available, and the fully galvanized body will keep corrosion at bay for decades to come.

The 1976 Porsche 912E was the last 912 manufactured, and rarely comes a good one up for sale. If you'd like to become the proud owner of a very special collector car, this is your opportunity!
