Offered here is a terrific Alpine White over Linen 1990 944 S2 Cabriolet that is just out of a long term collector owner's stock of unusual cars. The car had very minor cosmetic and servicing needs when it came in most if not all of which have now been attended to; we have put a number of in-town and highway miles on since to ensure that it was ready for its next long term home - and hopefully more regular use.

According to the window sticker the car was sold new in Pompano Beach Florida for a sticker price of over $50000 - remember that this is a 25 year old car - that was a very large amount of money back in those days but these were also very technically advanced cars with many refinements not commonly found in 1990. My father was a Porsche dealer in 1990 and I remember these being hard to keep on the ground - so people were buying them particularly in nice color schemes like this. Dad was impressed that we had found one of these so tidy and in such a great color scheme with good options.

The 944S2 Cabriolet has timeless lines - it was not only cutting-edge technically but also from a styling standpoint a very modern car which is why it remains a very fresh and stylish looking car today. From the beginning of production the 944 was a great performer - handling low weight good balance and great performance made them champions in SCCA Showroom Stock. There's a reason many of these cars have long ago gone on to meet their maker having been used hard and put up wet making this all the more rare.

This car appears to have most of its original white finish there are a few areas where rock chips were touched up or blended in but there's no accident history in Carfax nor are there any indications of any such work having been done to this exquisite car throughout its long life.

The original wraparond decal on the tail panel is still as new!

The power tops on these 944S2 Cabs are not problematic but they can create a fracture in one of the fragile top bows and it was deemed preferable to a prior owner to disconnect the power top operating motor and to raise and lower the top manually. It's an easy one-man top and we saw no need to risk damaging the bow.

The top and all panel gaps fit fabulously throughout and the car is straight down both sides.

A very tidy example all the way around!

Straight down the right side...

As well as on the left!

This is the preferred look - top down and ready to cruise!

The top folds neatly beneath its original boot.

And when not in use is stored in its original trunk bag!

Also in the trunk is the original space saver spare wheel and tire the original tool kit and the original Porsche air compressor.

It appears that most of the original tools are here.

Both trunk struts are excellent as is the carpeting in the trunk.

Back to our walk-around with the top down...

A great looking drop top from any angle this 944 S2 Cabriolet represents one of the best remaining examples anywhere.

Porsche used the same style of wheel on these cars as they did the 911 and 928 for 1990 and these are nice and straight with good Michelins all the way around. Here's a closer look going counter clockwise from right front:

Taking a look inside note that the interior is just as nice as the outside. The dash was very wrinkly and we followed a time consuming but rewarding process of stripping and recovering it thoroughly with the correct grain material. The result is outstanding.

We also redyed the steering wheel and passenger airbag so that they matched. The "deviating" interior (different color dash and seats/carpet) was an option on Porsches of this era and makes for a distinctive look.

Everything fits and looks really good in here now!

Both front seats are immaculate in optional extra charge partial leather.

Not surprisingly so are the rears.

The original Reno 2 Stereo with optional "Hi Fi" Blaupunkt EQ and amplifier are all here and working but the LCD display is bad on the radio. We might have another one around the shop to swap in but it won't have the same code as the card that's in with the books.

Yes this car has working climate control and cold air conditioning which we just repaired and re-charged!

The gauges are still nice and crisp and the needles still as orange as they were when new.

Both door panels are also in fine shape windows and locks work as they should.

Top Down or

Top Up this is one good solid good running driving and handling Porsche!

Under the hood the 208bhp 3 Litre 16 Valve DOHC I-4 engine starts and runs perfectly with no issues. We've just serviced it with a new timing belt and all fluids changed.

No faults detected!

One really nice thing about this car is its comprehensive original owners packet and window sticker back to new. You almost never find any 944 with everything and it's all here. Combined with the original tools air pump and top boot and you've really got one in many here.

I just think it's cool to still have this here!

Even the original Roadside and Radio Code cards are still with the packet!

It's not too late to make this one yours and enjoy the rest of summer and fall in your "new" 944!

payment and shipping

This car is being sold by a licensed and bonded dealer of fine used automobiles in Savannah Georgia. Please understand that this is an unusual 25 year old sports car (now considered an Antique!) built by men and not gods - and is thus sold as-is where-is with no implied or stated warranty or guarantee. As stated above in the listing we have made a significant effort over the last month and some to correct issues that we found with the car (at the end of the day very few) and believe it to be in extremely good health based on many years of experience with Porsches and other sports cars of all types over many years.

A quick note - you will notice that this car is listed on my account - I am asking you to please contact my partner Joe Frazar with questions about the 944S2 directly through one of the following e-mail links or call him on his cell phone directly. While I put this listing together today I am on vacation this week and had a minor brain fart listing it under me instead of his account. The car is with him at our Savannah location and he is best suited to answer any and all questions about it particularly as he's done most of the work to the car since it came in. If questions come to me via eBay I'll do my best to answer them in a timely manner or forward them to his attention promptly. Please note that I will be back in my office at close of auction.

Full payment is due within seven days of auction close unless discussed with us in advance of your bid. Your winning bid is a contract to buy not just to look or for first right of refusal; the only reason your contract would be null and void is if it was found that we willingly misrepresented the car in the above description. If you feel you need to inspect the car prior to purchase please arrange and have this inspection done prior to placing a successful bid. Accepted forms of payment include a cleared certified cheque or wire transfer in the dealership's bank account or cash in person on pickup (no cash via the mail eBay!). Georgia residents MUST pay sales tax to the dealership in addition to your purchase price just as you would to any other automobile dealer. We require that paperwork be completed prior to or at the time of pickup (should you do this in person) in any case. We do not charge tax to out of state buyers as this is something you handle at the DMV or naturally other dealers in all 50 states.

Shipping or pickup must occur within fourteen days of auction close unless discussed with us in advance of your bid. We are happy to refer you to one of the high-quality open or enclosed collector car shipping companies that we use frequently in the normal course of business - and we cannot stress enough the importance of using such a carrier and not a random open transport broker or carrier you might find online particularly as this is an unusual car in phenomenal original condition. For international buyers we can carry the car to the port of Savannah at no charge or to other ports for a nominal fee though shipping beyond the U.S. border must be entirely arranged for and paid by you. Please contact us if you need any assistance with logistics and we'll be happy to help.

We reserve the right to cancel all bids and end the auction early at any time during the course of the sale should a sale occur outside of eBay as the car has been offered quietly through other channels over the past month. We typically do not do this at all and only when full payment has been received from such a buyer will the auction be pulled. You may rest assured that if and when the reserve price is met the auction will run to the end period.

Any legal action associated with this sale from either the buyer or the seller is to take place in the State of Georgia in the Chatham County Courthouse. The bidder/buyer further agrees that any legal action will be heard in Chatham County in the State of Georgia. All legal actions associated with this auction/sale will be governed by the laws of the State of Georgia and buyer agrees to be responsible for all legal costs including but not limited to court costs expenses attorney fees cost of process service and all other costs associated with the normal course of business.
