The 1979 911 was the car that revived Porsche Company's faith in its rear-engine flagship and created a worldwide fanfare that would go on to ensure the 911's legacy as one of the most iconic sports cars ever created. Only 9475 911's were produced in 1979 and a fraction of that number were Targa's making this car one of the rarest European sports cars of the decade. The Targa is named in honor of Sicily's mountainous Targa Florio a race that Porsche won 11 times more times than any other car manufacturer and the aesthetic appeal and practicality of the Targa is in full effect with the 1979 rendition. The 1979 911 was the first model with flat black door handles and window trims replacing the previous model's chrome effects and the headlight surrounds returned to original body color. The flat black accents contrast beautifully with the Grand Prix White exterior paint and Grand Prix White period-correct Carrera classic wheels. The body has been further enhanced by a period-correct OEM aero-kit giving this 911 a silhouette that could only be Porsche.
