Sold new in California, nd imported in to British Columbia, anada in 1997, his 914 has had a single repaint in Guards Red. It retains its stock floor pans and battery box, nd has never needed invasive body repairs. There is no evidence of accident damage, nd all the body panels are straight. Paint quality is excellent, specially for an entry-level classic car. The rear trunk, hich can easily corrode in the corners, s perfectly finished.

The interior has held up extremely well. The dash is un-cracked. Seats, arpets, oor panels are all very good to excellent. There is some slight wear to the top of the steering wheel. Glass is excellent.

Mechanically, he car starts up instantly, ettles to an even idle, nd rev’s sweetly to red line. The car doesn’t smoke or exhibit any driveability problems. The braking system has been completely refreshed including new rotors, ads and brake lines. The gearbox, hile vague in its selection of gears, unctions normally for this model. Synchros are excellent and there are no bearing noises.

It is surprisingly quick for a 4 cylinder car, nd a 5 speed gearbox is relatively unique for an entry level sports car. With a relatively tall 5th gear, he car is very unstressed at highway speeds.

SUM UP

This is a very nice example of a 914; the most desirable variant excepting the 914-6, nd a California car that has never had the misfortune of a budget body restoration. So many of these cars were badly rusted, nd they were never worth enough for owners to pay for expensive body restoration, nd were horribly bodged. With the good 911’s all now getting expensive, he 914 becomes a fun and interesting entry level Porsche.
