This example is a 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet in Guards Red with the Black soft-top; a highly popular color combination on any Porsche, ut especially stunning on the 944. Originally ordered with the optional heated leather seats, n $1,137 extra cost, t was sold for a MSRP of $50,392, hich is $91,740 in today’s dollars (adjusted for inflation). Not a cheap car like a Miata MX-5 or BMW Z3. The car has been meticulously been maintained and has service records of everything including oil changes and spark plugs. With the odometer showing just 83,367, his car has had a very quiet life; no hot-rodding, recks, r damages.
Being only 1 of 1,824 US-spec 944-S2 models built in 1990, his is a very rare car and certainly draws a lot of attention wherever it goes.
The car has been very well taken care of over the years, he top is still the original piece, ith no major damage, tains, r marks. There are two areas where the top mechanism has worn through the material, eaving small slits that shouldn’t be too hard to repair; the back window has slight scratches and swirl marks, ut is not cracked or discolored. Due to concerns about the electrical components that these cars utilized for top operation, t has been converted to manual operation and goes up and down smoothly with ease. When down, he original boot fastens over the top using the factory snaps. It also shows no stains, r damage and really looks fabulous cruising around with the wind in your hair.
The body is extremely solid, he car was originally sold in Kansas and has always been garaged and kept clean of mud, irt, nd rain. No signs of corrosion, amage, r modifications can be seen anywhere on the car. From evidence around the door jambs, e surmise that portions of the car have been repainted in the past, ut the blending is very well done and the respray is only noticeable under very intense scrutiny to areas like door sills, r trunk seals. Overall, he paint is very glossy, ith slight hazing in areas that will most likely buff right out with some attention. Decals at the rear are still bright and clean, o signs of tearing, ading, r wear to the vinyl graphics. The trunk floor is all still factory original, ith the space-saver spare tire still in it’s nest. Included in the trunk as well is an accessory Bra to match the covers that are on the mirrors, nd a Porsche-badged air-compressor that came with the car.
The interior of this 1990 Porsche 944 S2 is all original; the aforementioned heated leather seats are very comfortable, et are showing slight wear, specially on the passenger-seat’s seams. While not a major deal, hese can easily be repaired by an upholstery shop just to make sure that they don’t get any worse. Otherwise, he carpets, ash, nd back seats are all exceptionally clean and damage free. The factory BlauPunkt radio got locked somehow in the past, ut it can easily be made operational by entering in the factory reset code, hich is readily available by Porsche suppliers.
The drivetrain of this 944 recently underwent an extensive inspection and several repairs were made at the time. The majority of the fuel system was replaced, o prevent any issues in the future with starting, dling, r performance. Items like the relays, umps, nd filters were either replaced, r professionally cleaned and restored to factory condition. The same approach was taken with other common maintenance areas like belts, ulleys, nd accessories; all have now been checked off as repaired, r marked for future maintenance checks. As mentioned before, here is a whole folder of papers that document all the repairs, pgrades, nd changes done to this car in it’s lifetime. Engine now shifts very smoothly, uns like a dream, nd has zero performance issues whatsoever.
Overall, his is a car that has been lovingly maintained throughout it’s life, nd while it may not be the most “perfect” 944 Cabriolet on the market, t certainly is in amazing shape and runs like a champ! Of course, here are always going to be small things that can go wrong or be not quite right, o I’ll let the photos show the car’s condition. There are small little scratches, hips, r issues here-and-there in the car, ut overall, he car is ready to go on your next trip!
