On offer is this exceedingly rare 1976 Porsche Carrera 3.0 Coupe finished in ascot green with original tan interior carrying chassis number 9116600116 and engine number 6660156. During the Carrera 3.0’s short lifespan from 1976 to 1977, nly 3,687 were built in total (Coupes and Targas) but were never available to the U.S market. The Carrera 3.0 is fitted with what is essentially a 930 Turbo Carrera engine without a turbo. Thispower plant would later go on to serve as a basis for the popular SC line of 911s. The Carrera 3.0 however, as more powerful and lighter than the later SC’s and carried the flywheel and crank of the famous 73' Carrera RS. There are a few unique cosmetic features that differentiate the Carrera 3.0 from later SC’s including the Turbo Carrera tail and slightly wider fender flares. This car in particular is a 2-owner, atching-numbers example that has recently came out of long-term ownership. The car’s life prior to importation into the states is unknown though we do know that a Mr. Fred W. Green, mported it in 1987. Fittingly, r. Green utilized the car as a marketing tool for his company, reen Pipeline Supply Inc. in Illinois. Mr. Green drove and enjoyed the car for many years until health reasons deemed him unable to do so. It then sat for 2 years starting in 2013 until we purchased the car in September of 2015. Over 26 years of singular ownership under the care of Mr. Green.
Cosmetically, he car has an older re-paint in its original color (paint code 258-9-2) that was not completed to the highest standards. There is primer shrinking and overspray on various rubber seals that is not noticeable unless closely inspected. There is a slight amount of bubbling next to the gas filler flap that we attribute to poor paint prep. Ideally, he car would need to be repainted to bring it to the next level. The wheels are incorrectly colored and should also be redone. The fronts of the door jams in which the door hinges are located still has original paint in excellent condition as does the engine bay. The anodized black trim pieces around the front and rear windshields and side windows are in excellent condition with no sun fading or scratching. Ultimately, f a driver quality car is the goal, ainting will not be necessary. We would suggest refinishing the wheels, wet sand/buff, nd a good servicing to have a fun driver. The interior is exceptional for being original with no signs of tears, ignificant wear to the bolsters or carpets. The seats, arpets, eadliner etc. are all original. The undersides of the floor mats still have their original dot patterned sound deadening as well.
Mechanically, he car has been sitting but does crank over and will start with some effort. It will need a complete service to be road worthy again. Most electrical components function as they should along with the brakes, teering and shifter bushings all being in working order. The engine bay is very original with many stickers, actory torque markings, riginal sound deadening, nd original paint in the compartment.
The front trunk is very tidy with original paint throughout including the gas tank and spare. It retains factory spot welding in its entirety with no signs of any accidents. The floors are in excellent, ust free condition and original. Upon lifting the driver and passenger mats, ne will notice original green over black paint with factory ridges in the floor pans further confirming its original color and structurally sound condition.
These Carrera 3.0 coupes are few and far between especially those that were finished in this rare color combination from the factory. With a bit of work, his car could be a fabulous driver and an excellent investment or addition to any Porsche collection. Included in the sale are the original tools, nd spare. Worldwide shipping is available and can be arranged upon request.
