Description

Backdraft Cobra #331 for sale Vin# AA9BMAAHV51CN1127 Reluctantly selling my cobra. I can honestly say, I’ve never had more fun in any car then this one! This is an ex-race car campaigned in 2007 by Reg and Frank Dodd, the owners of backdraft. I bought it from them in 2007 when they returned it to street legal form. Since it was a full race car, it had been stripped to the bare chassis for weight savings. Included are some pictures that were in a magazine from its short lived racing days. To prepare for street use, basically everything was brand new: Seats, windshield, roll bars, wheels, tires, brakes, suspension, engine……basically a brand new car except for the body and chassis. It retained some race equipment such as the oil cooler, remote oil filter, ceramic coated headers, 4 core aluminum radiator. I tracked it in 2 DE events and it is a beast! amazing handling with the BMW 3 series IRS rear suspension, struts and brakes. Originally had a Rousch 427 with 700+ horsepower race engine that did not come with the car. (didn’t want it) Frank Dodd had bought out a race shop in Arizona and received a few engines in the deal. I have one of those engines. It is unknown who built the engine or intervals, I have no documentation. (Keith Craft was mentioned, but cannot confirm) but it is a 351W, 1974 Torino block with aluminum heads, deep 14 quart oil sump, Holly 4 barrel with K&N filter, runs very strong, no issues; I think around 425 HP . Speedfannatix in Florida who did the install, claimed it was more powerful then the usual Ford 351 crate engine they usually use……but who knows. Never on a dyno. If you know Backdraft Cobras you know the quality. Go to the website to see the basic roller chassis components (full BMW 3 series suspension and brakes etc) then add these options: Tremic T5 5 speed transmission, body is orange with cream stripes (at the time the only car in that color, I think they have made others since then) Also included is the chin spoiler that was used in it’s racing career, convertible top (never used) tonneau cover (never used) heat installed, dual roll bars, K&N Filter, chrome one wire alternator with serpentine belt kit. remote oil filter setup, windshield wings, ray dot driver side mirror, True Knock off wheels with Lead hammer included for spinner removal, Moto Lita wood steering wheel (original included) Spare set of ignition wires. I also have a 2” higher driver roll bar available at extra cost if interested. Brand new Nitto NT1 tires with 50 miles on them. Couple flaws and chips to be expected, this is a beautiful driver quality car. Issues: Speedometer intermittent. I’ve messed with this since I bought it….have not been able to solve the problem. It is hit or miss. Frankly, I gave up as I rarely drive it, it wasn’t a big deal to me… Electronic sensor in the rear diff hard to get to…..loose connection. the car reads now about 1600 miles, I bought it with 600. Drips a couple drops of oil. Some stone chips in the nose, light tire mounting rash on rims Please carefully study gallery pictures HERE and ask questions, I'm happy to take more pictures for anyone who needs them!!! NO RESERVE!!
