This 1961 Studebaker Champ truck spent it’s early life as an airfield support truck for a Southern California small airport. The previous owner (a Pebble Beach restorer) discovered it in the early 80’s and performed the correct restoration that you see today. He owned this vehicle for approximately 30 years and added less than 2000 miles to the odometer, while using it on a weekly basis.
In my ownership, I have rebuilt the cylinder head, carburetor, fuel system and cooling system and carefully cleaned, moisturized and preserved the paint and interior. I have sourced rare original Studebaker parts for the truck to make it absolutely correct in every detail. The truck was restored using all original colors, textures and materials as authentic as possible, true to how it left the factory. The truck is bone dry, accident free and all shut lines are terrific.
Mechanically the truck is all new from its 170 cu.in. engine, manual 3-speed transmission, drive-line to brakes and suspension. All gauges work, all lights work, as well as turn signals, ventilation and wipers. Everything has been beautifully detailed in the engine compartment, passenger compartment, truck bed & gate as well as the full underside.
We have used this truck for vacations through wine country to bring home wine and antique treasures (all wrapped in blankets to protect the bed) and I have made many lumber runs to my local hardware store, also protecting the bed with blankets. It is a hit everywhere we go. We keep it in top condition including new tires and battery and all systems work reliably. We are looking to buy a vintage camper, and this truck is in perfect shape for the next owner, so the time is right to find a new steward for this rare and special truck.
