Here is your chance to own a very nice non-molested, UST FREE, 988.5 Suzuki Samurai. If you are looking at this ad I bet, ou already know how hard these are getting to find in original condition.
In mid-1988, he Samurai got a few upgrades including redesigned dashboard, ew leaf springs with teflon pads and softer ride, hicker anti-sway bar, .864 5th-gear ratio, light change to the grille, igger radiator, nd larger pinion / transfer case driveshaft flanges.
I looked for a year to find a Samurai that was not a cut up rock crawler, eat up hunting buggy, r rust bucket. I have owned this Samurai for almost 7 years and it has been a blast. For the last few years it has mainly been sitting and driven only to keep the battery charged and fresh gas in carburetor. When I do drive it I get all sorts of smiles, aves, nd compliments.
I bought it from a gentleman in Dallas who repainted it in a pearl white which is stunning. It still shows nice today. He also painted the interior floors with bed liner black. Besides the paint it was basically in original stock form. Over the years I kept it stock but did do the following upgrades / maintenance:
Installed Kenwood radio and speakers
Reupholstered the seats with nice fabric (vinyl made you sweat). These are not covers…seats were professionally redone.
New BFG all-terrain tires
Undercoated the entire under carriage
New brakes
New shocks
New muffler from header back
New aluminum radiator
New timing belt and water pump
New battery
New rebuilt carburetor
I also have some extra parts….car cover, omplete soft top, pare safari top like the one in pics, pare tire holder, ew Weber carburetor (in box), pare tire, un visors, nd door window regulator mechanisms.
This thing is a blast to drive and a refreshing “back to basics” vehicle that takes you away from the highly technical vehicles of today. It does not have AC or power steering, s 5 speed manual trans, nd ride is a bit rough…but that is what this vehicle is all about. Samurai’s have gained respect from the off road world as being an extremely capable off roader that can be highly customized fairly easily and cheaply. But to be honest I did not have the heart to radically alter this one….too hard to find in this condition. It currently has 62,600 miles and I am not sure if that is flipped over or not.
This is not a fire sale so please do not shoot me lowball offers. The Samurai is registered as an “Antique Vehicle” which cost $50 for 5 years and insured through a classic car insurer costing about $105 per year. Since it is not in my way and cost almost nothing to hold I am not pressured to sell.
