The Good:
These 1st generation Toyotas are unstoppable and have a cult following. It has independent front suspension, hich makes it less desirable than the earlier models that had a solid front axle, hich is better for off-roading and rock crawling, owever it is very capable despite its age. The only work that has needed to be done a was an alternator and master cylinder 6-7000 miles ago, nbsp;new front brake pads, otors and calipers 4-5000 miles ago, hocks at the four corners at the same time. New clutch and timing belt maybe 80000 miles ago.
The body is in relatively good shape considering most of these 1980s toyota trucks are dust at this point. 4WD works great and has auto locking hubs. It's a manual transmission. The rear top comes off to expose a back seat and roll bar.
It drives great on the highway! I have not done much off-roading, ut good on snow and dirt. I drive it everyday, t always starts, ven below zero.
The Not so Good.
Its 26 years old, he last 12 in the Midwest. It needs a new windshield and muffler.Probably the biggest problem is that the rear window is not working. It is a very integral part of the usefulness of the truck. It stopped working one day, fter working very well. The most experienced mechanic at the Toyota dealer said he could fix it, ut didn't ask if I wanted to put the money into it, ust said to try to find a replacement tailgait.A good soft top would be a great solution.
I love this thing, ut can't put 3 car seats in the back.
