Description

Here we have a 78 FJ40 she has been a great truck. front rear heaters. 4 speed trans. original 2f 6 cyl. inch and hard top & doors. I brought it back and have been having a blast with it ever since. To say it had rust was. an understatement. You could always tell where you parked by the little pile it would leave behind. A year ago it hit a breaking point when the boxes under the seat fell out. I found a donner FJ and cut the firewall back out of it. This FJ is a high breed foot well forward 1977 foot well back 1973. I have always had a hatred for ambulance door and this was my chance to get rid of them. Its the best of both worlds. split rear door . and all the goodies of a late model. disc brakes etc. those of you who know FJ know that the frame has weak points where it had sections riveted in. the rivets were left in place but all x members have been welded in place along with the x supports. " see pics". The rear bumper is a 4x4 box tube set up using the stock spare tire holder just mounted to an upright. this give me the ability to have a swing out spare and a swing out NATO can not attached to the body. Body:firewall forward 1977floorboard back 1972both front fenders have been replaced with aftermarket ones. all solid except the windshield frame " at one time i think something was living in it and did inside damage. " i have never been able to find a replacement and is by far the worst section of the FJ. there is some pitting in the lower kick panels and should be cut out and a new set welded in but they are solid for the most part. Tub is solid and to mount the rear fenders was painful to drill holes in virgin metal. pitting in the lower lips of the 1/4 rear gates and in the lower lips of the hard doors. Rear floor is good but not perfect it has a few pin holes here and there but nothing major. "see pic"Engine 2Fnew main and rod bearing roll in 2 years agonew oil pump hi volumeignition is a GM style HEICarb is a new Holley 2 barrel new radiator and primary hosesfan clutch is two years old. trans stock 4 speedclutch 2 years oldmaster and hyd slave same agestock transfer casestock diffs4" spring lift4" longer high end shocksall schacke points have been weldednew brake pads /fluidnew rear shoes master cyl rebuilt last year. Eagle wheels set 17"x10"Cooper STT tires 33x12. 50 70/80%BFG on the rear spare holderNATO can on the spare holder platformInterior : Recaro seats front on a very beefed up bolt in mountrear are flip up in good shape with new Toyota seat belts. Under the seats is a new rubber coated fuel tank for safety reasons. Stock size but fuel in a truck seems like a bad idea so i took every precaution i could. There are duel heaters the rear i have just set in place for the pictures. I live in TEXAS its in the 70"s right now and its the middle of February. I dont need duel heaters. maybe you do. both work very well. Most of the seals are original on the body and will need to be replaced. There is No power steering or AC it did not come that way and i have not changed it. Lighting. has been upgraded to led on rear and sealed beams up front with replaceable bulbs. i got tired of loosing taillight covers and not seeing at night. A second fuse panel has been installed to handle a lot of the primary systems and there is a kill switch to knock out the hei as well. now for the bad:Pin holes in bed floorlower edges of doorslower edges of rear 1/4 doorsno headliner " i got real tired of it raining fiberglass in there" kick panels are roughleading edge of hood has a few pin holes but is solid. windshield wipers just stopped working the other day . i have not looked in to why yetwindshield frame is rusty inside. right now . the wipers don't work. may have blown the glass fuse no clue. This is a fantastically fun FJ40. I love the truck if i was not being forced in to this sell i would not be selling. That being said this is a toy not a restored FJ40. With all the mods done i don't think its even a candidate for a full on restoration. If you want a restored FJ40 they are out there and not cheep so good luck to you. If you are looking an FJ40 to go out and have fun and use an FJ40 for what they were designed for . to have a great time wheel in and out of damn near anything. this may be what you have been looking for. I know i was now its someone else's turn . This FJ is no longer tagged or street legal at the moment. It could be. i just choose to ride in ac to and from an event so. she rides on a trailer. I have to the best of my knowledge given a summary of the honest condition of this truck. Ask me any questions you may want or if you want a pic of something in particular don't hesitate to ask.
