Description

For sale is an original 1974 FJ40 Land Cruiser in excellent condition. I am the third owner. This FJ40 has clearly benefited from a limited ownership roster and good care over the years. It has been garaged all of its life and used very lightly. It has never been in an accident or abused. The prior owner gave the FJ to only sparing use: a total of 100 miles per year. The motor runs smooth and smoke-free. The drive train is bullet proof. The shocks steering dampener bushings and leaf springs all combine to provide an outstanding and tight feel. The gauges all work the upholstery and carpets are excellent the tires and polished wheels are in great shape. The 4-wheel drive system works like new providing and incredible amount of torque over any sort of unpaved terrain. Lights and indicators work as they should. Having been repainted the vehicle’s exterior finish is in excellent condition with few chips or flaws. There are new window rubbers and weather stripping throughout. Glass all around is sound. Heat blows hot defroster works! Offered in essentially stock and unmodified condition with 16" rims 30" tires and a mild 2" lift front and back this FJ40 marks a great and highly collectible classic 4X4 find and an unqualified icon complete with a clean title document. The pictures speak for themselves.A recent inspection confirms the FJ is in great condition and there is little or no rust visible. With its legendary DNA rooted in a 1951 prototype intended for evaluation by Japan’s National Police Reserve Toyota’s definitive third-series FJ40 Land Cruiser immediately earned a stellar reputation for ruggedness and the uncanny ability to traverse the most rugged and demanding terrain. Importation of the landmark short-wheelbase FJ40 to the United States commenced in 1960 and continued through 1983 with supplementary models including the FJ45 four-door pickup and wagon variants imported from 1963 to 1967 and the family-oriented FJ55 utility wagon imported from 1968 to 1979. Changed very little throughout its production run the FJ40 nonetheless received careful and welcome refinements throughout its lifespan including the addition of a four-speed transmission in 1974. While immensely effective and popular precious few of these rugged workhorses survive intact today.

In addition to civilian use the vehicles and their various sub-models inevitably saw military service in several countries and figured prominently in several Cold War “hot spots” during the late 20th Century. Whether used to transport troops supplies or when mounted with machine-guns or anti-aircraft guns and weapon systems the Land Cruiser was every bit as dependable durable and capable as the famous “Jeep” and arguably even more so. Of all surviving Land Cruisers though it is the FJ40 that remains the most recognized imitated and appreciated today.

Vehicle is sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied concerning condition and flaws known or unknown. I am more than willing to help with all shipping arrangements but the final responsibility for shipping is the buyers.
