Description

I am selling my dream car. It’s a 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 that has been fully restored and decked out to be your ultimate adventure vehicle. Best of all you can buy this car for a fraction of what has gone into it as it has received over $40000 in restoration and upgrades. It has a lot of miles but with so much new under the hood that’s still under warranty (including the engine) it’s more like a new car than any 1986 truck out there. My name is Jay and my cell is 806-282-8682; give me a call if you have any questions at all or want to come check it out for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. Read on to find out a little more about this awesome truck.

I fell in love with Land Cruiser FJ60’s when I was just in high school. I didn’t know much about them before one of my best friends got an ’87. We took that truck everywhere and put more than a little bit of Texas ingenuity into it. We learned how to weld while building a roof rack for it and we redirected the tubing from the pump that sprays the headlights to a reservoir we added in the back (which of course we kept full of whiskey) and back out under the dash. Driving around listening to Jerry Jeff Walker sipping bourbon from our automatic dispenser and blazing trails through the canyons and plains of West Texas I came to realize that Land Cruisers were the ultimate adventure vehicle and had more character than anything on (or off) the road.

My love affair for Land Cruisers only grew over the next decade or so. I played around with my brother-in-law’s FJ40 and nearly bought an 80 series. I constantly watched eBay and all the other sites for the right FJ60 to come up for sale. Every single one I found however was either way too expensive for me or needed way more work than I could afford. Nothing ever came along that was just right.

Then finally I found it. I found the perfect Land Cruiser. Most of the restoration work had been done (over $30000 at that point). It looks great with new paint ARB Bull bumper and cattle guard a roof rack and brand new BF Goodrich Mud Terrains on great looking performance off-road wheels. The entire interior was in better shape than the 2 year old truck I was driving at the time. This Cruiser even has a great story: It had been restored by a former Toyota manager along with 18 other Land Cruisers. Being the nicest one he set this one aside to be his daily driver and put the most money and work into it. One of the best parts of the story is that after restoration he moved to Costa Rica and took this FJ60 with him. Every week he loaded up the local vet and drove him out to the sticks where people otherwise wouldn’t have access to veterinary help. I’ve left the Costa Rica registration sticker on the window because I just think it’s a neat reminder of the truck’s unique heritage. (Note that if you run a Carfax or similar report the fact that it was registered in Costa Rica throws up a flag; it doesn’t actually refer to anything negative.) Between the restoration that had been done the upgrades it had received and the incredible condition this Cruiser was in I knew I had found the perfect FJ60. Of course I bought it.

It has been the perfect car for me. It has been a great daily driver for me for some time. I've taken it all over the country on all my skiing and fishing and hunting adventures. I've pulled my boat with it all over the West to all the great trout rivers. I've invested time and money into it including the new engine so that it would be the car I needed to it to be. It’s even surprised me a time or two like the time I got a speeding ticket on the highway pulling my boat. I am proud to put my high dollar fishing clients into it because they appreciate the character and the surprising comfort. I am proud to pull up to the river in it because I know I always have the best looking truck of any guide at the boat ramp.

Unfortunately however while the Cruiser is just as perfect and awesome as it ever was financial circumstances from other arenas of my personal life have caused me to have to sell it. Bad for me good for you. Now you have the opportunity to own an awesome restored Land Cruiser FJ60 for a great price.

Just look at the over $40000 in restoration and upgrades completed by myself and previous owners:

  • Fully rebuilt Toyota 2F engine STILL UNDER WARRANTY. Just installed and hardly driven. Rebuilt by a Land Cruiser specialist.
  • Full body-off restoration of all body panels including complete repair and repainting.
  • All chrome emblems grill lights etc have been replaced.
  • All springs and shocks have been replaced.
  • All window regulators were replaced and properly lubricated so that the windows work great and the windshield was recently resealed.
  • All new carpet and upholstery has been installed. The seats and dash are all in such good condition that they almost look like they just rolled off the lot.
  • Custom rear side sliding windows which provide great air circulation a custom rubber mat in rear cargo area which prevents you from having to worry about messing up the carpet and a custom tow hitch with wiring for pulling all your toys and gear to your favorite remote wilderness destination have all been added.
  • Great looking MB Motorsports Premium alloy off-road wheels with nearly new 33x10.5x15 BF Goodrich Mud Terrains. The $1000+ set of tires have 99% or more tread remaining as measured by Big O Tires in Avon CO. These big burly tires give the Cruiser a little extra height and a great aggressive stance.
  • ARB Bull Bumper front-end replacement with brush guard 8000 pound Warn winch halogen spotlights and custom roof rack make this an adventure machine and one of the best looking FJ’s anywhere.
  • A/C system blows ice cold thanks to being converted to the modern R-134a.
  • In addition to the engine nearly everything under the hood is practically brand new: new radiator thermostat and hoses new starter (with warranty) new Interstate battery (with warranty) new fuel pump even a new air pump (with warranty). Along with the engine it's almost like a new car under there.
  • An awesome Kenwood CD/Stereo with remote. This is one of my favorite features of the whole car because it has a cord that when you plug your phone or iPod in it both begins playing music and charging. It’s great!
  • Full bumper-to-bumper inspection by a Land Cruiser specialist (Classic Cruisers out of Salida CO a complete Land Cruiser restoration body shop and repair facility). This inspection sure gave me great peace of mind early on. I'm happy to send you a copy of it if you'd like.
FULL DISCLOSURE:

Obviously after owning it for some time I believe that this is the perfect vehicle for any adventure and that’s what I mean any time I’ve used the word “perfect” or something similar. Please note that the restoration was done some time ago so obviously the usual minor wear and tear that you would expect over the years is present on the interior and exterior. A very minor amount of bubbling has come up around the wheel wells and a couple spots on the doors. I wish I could have seen it right after the restoration was completed because it very well may have been museum quality. This minor bubbling is just about the only thing keeping it from being priced around $50000. Come see it for yourself and give it a test drive. I’m happy to meet you anywhere in Vail CO just give me a little heads up so we can make it work with my work schedule. The engine and the parts listed above come with a warranty but I obviously cannot warranty anything myself. The truck is sold as-is and of course all sales must be final. My cell phone number is 806-282-8682 and my name is Jay. Just give me a call if you have any questions or if you want to check it out for yourself before you place a bid.One look and you’ll love it as much as I do.

It’s the perfect truck no matter where your adventure takes you and you can get it at a huge discount to the amount of money that has been put into it. I have it listed other places and the opening price here is the best price. If it sells elsewhere this auction will be pulled. Cars like this don’t come around often especially not for this great of a price. It will go fast either here or somewhere else so make your bid quick.
