Description
This particular auction is for an authentic original 1971 Triumph TR6 Roadster as shown. It is an unrestored, unmodified original survivor. I will answer all email questions. Following is a detailed description: GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A straight, attractive, desirable early TR6 with the original high back bucket seats and plenty of eye appeal as viewed from any angle. Includes the original British motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate. Original paint was Signal red with black interior and top. A relatively solid 45 year old South Carolina car that has spent it's entire life there with one family. It was last driven in 1996 and was put up in storage when the owner was going to restore it. He died soon after putting it in storage whereupon I purchased it from his brother. His brother said that it was a special ordered car and, as indicated on the Heritage certificate, was shipped from the Navy Yard Wharf, Harwich, Essex, England, aboard the vessel "Daphne" to British Leyland Motors in Houston Texas. Built May, 1971. The odometer shows 61309 miles. I believe it is correct but cannot guarantee it's accuracy. It is getting more difficult for the do it yourselfer to find an original car worthy and inexpensive enough to restore and have something that is a solid original when their job is finished. Most original survivors have disappeared and a lot of the leftovers are either "weekend restored" cars or rusty beaters. An untouched original, even if it has problems, gives you a more accurate assessment of it's overall condition and what kind of work needs to be done. This Triumph is one of those cars. I do not detail my cars but do wash and clean them so that you and I can see exactly what is under years of dirt and grime. Nothing is hidden. As of this writing Hagertys classic car values the 1971 Triumph TR6's at $7100 fair, $12,800 good and $21,800 excellent. Average of $12,800. ENGINE: Starts easily and runs very smooth. Idles fine. The oil is clean. Has oil pressure but has plenty of white smoke coming out of the tailpipe after sitting for 20 years and white smoke usually indicates a blown head gasket. Regardless, it will need some kind of work. Personally I would just overhaul the engine. Engine number is CC52994E. It starts easily and runs well from the original fuel tank. TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH: Has the original TR6 4 speed transmission, non overdrive. Shifts well through all of the gears (engine not running), exactly like these transmissions normally function. Clutch is non operable due to the stuck master and slave cylinders, which will need replacing. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Very nice, solid and straight. No rust, no damage. Battery box is even good and solid. A battery is not included. Radiator is original. Everything else looks nice, original, complete and undamaged. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Very solid. Nice and straight with no rust or damage. Has the original Michelin spare tire and 72 spoke wire wheel. Tire of course is no good. Has the original jack. EXTERIOR SHEET METAL BODY PANELS: This is an extremely straight original car having no accident or other damage problems. It has some minor sheet metal rust through in isolated spots but nothing that can't be fixed easily or ignored - All areas are shown in the photos. The doors are excellent with no rust (excepting one small area on the bottom of the right door where shown)or damage and they open and shut solidly with no sagging. The door bottoms are solid. The trunk lid has 4 small drilled holes where a luggage rack once sat. We couldn't find the rack. The inner rockers look quite solid. EXTERIOR BODY PARTS: The original bumpers are in good, straight, undamaged condition. The front has a few small dents/waves. The chrome is 45 year old original, looks nice from a short distance and good for a driver or replate for show. Grille and headlight assemblys are very good. Tail light assemblys are good. The original top frame is excellent and undamaged. There is no soft top. All external body rubber gaskets and seals are old and original and will need replacing. No tonneau cover. PAINT: Looks like it was painted once in the original Signal red color over the original paint many years ago - the owner was experimenting with removing the paint with a scraper in a few spots here and there as shown in the photos (like the right front fender) in preparation of having fresh paint put on - that's about the time he died. GLASS: The side windows and the windshield are good with no damage. Both side windows are good and undamaged and roll up and down easily. CHASSIS: The frame is in good, straight, undamaged, unrotted condition. Both sides of the floors have some very minor holes throughout as shown - easily patched - I would not replace them, as they do not require it. INTERIOR/Upholstery: The interior needs complete software restoration. DASH AREA: Dash board needs replacing - the original has delaminated. Working: Speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, turn signals, windshield wipers, oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge, ammeter, carburetor choke, bonnet release handle. There is no radio. AIR CONDITIONING: None. Aftermarket air conditioners can be installed if need be - the new units are excellent, compact and very efficient. TIRES & WHEELS: The 72 spoke wire wheels are original to the car. They were special ordered when the car was new. The tires are the original Michelin X Redlines and will need replacing due to age. They hold air well, that's all. EXHAUST: The exhaust system is good and looks to have been replaced new at some point and never used. Exhaust note is healthy. SUSPENSION AND BRAKES: All original suspension and braking mechanisms are intact. Nothing missing. Shocks are intact. The brake hydraulics are not operable and will need replacing. Emergency brake assembly is intact. It may work or may not. I did not pull on it for fear it might lock up. Ask me how I know. MISCELLANEOUS: Car starts and runs. Rolls and steers easily, so no problem with transport or shuttling, but will need a battery. PAPERWORK: The British Motor Heritage Certificate is included. There is no title. An old South Carolina State inspection certificate and bill of sale go with the car. South Carolina or Georgia never issued titles. If you really want a title most States will issue a title upon having the local police inspect the VIN on the car or a title can be obtained from the South Carolina paperwork that comes with the car. Check your local regulations - they vary greatly. Most States do not require a title in order to register and license a classic car but have reciprocal agreements for classic cars. FACTORY ID PLATE: The Vehicle identification ID plates are intact and correct. The vehicle serial number is CC65144L. REVIEW: This is a 45 year old sports car and should be looked at with this in mind. Most everything on the car is 45 years old but still, it is an attractive classic roadster that can be finished in many ways or driven as it stands. It can be used as a driver while upgrading areas on the car or can be rebooted into a fine classic in a relatively short time. INSPECTION OF CAR: It is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is highly recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accomodate anyone to show them the car. If you elect not to do this you will have one of three outcomes after purchasing the car. #1. The car will be exactly as you thought it would be from the auction description and photos and you will be happy. #2. The car will be less than you thought it would be and you will be unhappy. #3. The car will be more than you thought it would be and you will be more than happy, and I will be the same in each case. It is described to the best of my ability along with many good photos but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have purchased and sold roughly 25 autos through ebay over the past 19 years and also many more over the telephone and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers but I do my due diligence and suggest you do the same. SHIPPING: I have shipped many cars to all parts of the world over the years and can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange transport. The car is in a secure place at my home. You can collect the car at my home. I can assist with loading. The car can stay here for up to 30 days from the close of the auction. PAYMENT & BIDDING: Contact me before you bid if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid will be cancelled. A $500 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. The balance is due within 5 days via priority or overnight mail with a bank cashiers check or cash. Payment is to be made IN ADVANCE of collecting the car. IN ADVANCE, BEFORE YOU COLLECT THE CAR - This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect the car - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Full payment is due BEFORE the car is collected. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it - if that is your intention, please do not bid on the car. If you cannot trust me, my reputation, the description and the extensive photos then it is your responsibility to inspect the car yourself or have a third party inspect it for you. When the auction is over, it is your car and payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions. I have sold approximately 25 cars and motorcycles on ebay and they all have been a bargain. This one certainly is. No Paypal for the balance.
