Description

1978 TRIUMPH SPITFIRE 1500

I bought this Spitfire in 2012 as a light restoration project. By summer of 2013 it was on the road and being enjoyed for summer fun!

Has the rare electric overdrive. More pics of the restoration work at www.dmawson.weebly.com

Odometer has 86043 miles on it although the tile suggest mileage unknown. It's not tired though so I suspect that is about right.

I have paperwork for all of the work I have done on the car. I have close to $8k into this cool "Olde English" car at this point. I have too many toys though so I will have to let this one go.

Restoration work included as follows:

Some minor rot in the rear frame as is common for the Spitfire's I had professionally welded. Then the entire underside was treated to underseal coating to keep it good for years.

Light work in the engine department including cast rocker cover and a sharp K&N air filer. Plus full service items.

Interior had a tatty dash so I replaced that with a brand new dash and put in a nice stereo & speakers.

Seats and carpets were already in restored condition so nothing required there.

Soft top was already new.

Door cards are great.

Handbrake cover was scruffy so I put in a nice center console item with cup holder works very nice.

Swapped the standard steering wheel for a ratherextravagant$350 Moto Lita item really does finish off the interior though.

An aftermarket glove box to fill the passenger shelf area completed the nice finishes to the interior.

The paint work I haven't changed as it was recently re-sprayed prior to buying the car. If I were to keep the car I would probably re-spray again back to its original racing green color (check pictures under hood) but the paint is just too new and too good to swap yet. Not the best spray job I have ever seen (maybe a 7 out of 10) but looks very presentable.

The 1500 4 cylinder works like a charm not the most powerful unit of-course but it is super reliable. The quintessential occasional oil drip of-course it wouldn't be English otherwise!

All the wheels were carefully restored with new chrome rings etc. so they look awesome.
