Triumph TR4A IRS, 967
13,900 original miles since new
I first saw this car when acquired in 1994 form the estate of a deceased collector in Omaha, ebraska who acquired the car in 1979 and, ith 7,900 original miles, arely drove it…..was in incredibly clean original condition, riginal paint, nterior, op, hrome, ero rust, xcellent running and driving. Its prior history: sold in 1967 by Ruckle Pontiac in Yonkers, NY, /p> For the new owner in Greenwich, t 7,900 original miles, e stripped the engine, ound virtually no wear, oned the bores, dded standard rings, ut the rods to -.010”, tandard mains, ew guides, eplaced the seats, aised the compression ratio 1.1 points, nstalled a 288” lift half race cam, ew clutch, alanced, eplaced most of the other internal parts, ebuilt the SU carbs, dded powder coated headers, adiator boiled and pressure checked, orked on suspension, rakes, dded rear tube shocks, ew front shocks, ew paint in original color (with no bondo other than glazing), ew interior, op, hrome, rim, tc. After little use, as sold to another affluent Connecticut resident in Suffield, nd then another in New Milford. Finally, ack to us. It has led a charmed life…..always garaged, ust a few hundred miles of use every year, ept in near pristine condition, nd now, ith 6,000 miles on all of the work, eady for a new owner. Our tests: 155-165 psi compression in every cylinder, 5 psi oil pressure when warm, o smoke, xcellent synchromesh action, mooth ride and handling, as been fitted with a Blaupunkt stereo, xpensive Nardi wood steering wheel, as a new tonneau cover, ery clean engine and trunk bays, xcellent original wiring, adge bar, ew seat belts, n and on and on. Guessing, aybe 115hp, ar runs and drives very well. Tight and with no rattles, Not purporting it was done to Pebble Beach show standards (and have not bothered to sand and paint the floors in flat black…but easily done) however, s a local show entrant, fun country road and distance cruising classic, ust about ideal. As a TR4A IRS, ffers….a 2138cc 4 cylinder OHV engine, ated at 104hp but with the modifications, robably a good bit more, ll synchromesh transmission, isc brakes, ndependent rear suspension, oll up windows, ace level air vents, +2 seating (room in the back for two kids… and yes, e can install seat belts and a seat pad), eal classic style and contemporary use and performance. Car has, n its large document packet, he invoices (and photos) from the 1994-6 reconditioning work, egistrations back to 1979, he original Ruckle Pontiac insignia on the car’s trunk, nd a lot more. This is a real opportunity to acquire an impressive near fifty year old English classic with a genuine history. We have the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust document sheet, nd all in all, fun car to own. And, nlike all of its previous owners, rive.
