The car is taken for an occasional weekend drive but otherwise rarely used. Newer 1600cc motor runs, rives great, hifts cleanly. Have had the motor, rakes, ransmission serviced by a great "old school" VW shop here in SoCal and it has a clean bill of health.
The most important thing to look for in an old Ghia is rust - in this one the floor pans were replaced during the restoration and the rockers are solid. No rust bubbles anywhere after three years of ownership. After the rockers and floors, he next place to look is bottom of the nose (solid metal) and under the battery (some rust thru, ut solid structure and battery hold down hardware all intact).
Some very small scratches that are hard to spot unless you know where to look. Typical of old K-G, he doors have a slight sag but open and close fine -- I purchased new hinges and stops, ut never got around to installing them, o they will transfer with the car.
Exterior chrome is all good - all restored, eplaced, r polished original. Interior chrome is mixed, ome looks great but others are typically pitted after 50 years. Lights, urn signals work fine, he speedo is new/restored, ut the clock doesn't work. The heat was never hooked up after the restoration - wasn't an issue to us as she's been a "fair weather" car for us and always garage-kept in CA.
A beautiful example of one of the most desired years for Karmann Ghia before the U.S. federal regulatory requirements made them less pure to form.On Feb-28-16 at 15:31:05 PST, eller added the following information:
Additional note: one bidder requested pictures of the floorpans and spare tire area. I only had 3 pictures left so added three. The spare tire well is very solid with just a little surface rust. The front pans and rockers are very clean and original on this CA car (I don't think they were ever undercoated, o you can see clearly what kind of shape they are in). The rear pans were replaced ~2012/13 during its restoration (before I bought it). Rockers and body attachment bolts are clean and solid all the way down both sides. feel free to send me your e-mail if you want more pics
