Description

Up for sale is a 1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia with the highly sought after Subaru EJ25 motor swap. This Westy is in excellent shape with $10k in recent work done within the last year. A little background on this Westy:I have owned this Vanagon for the past year. I purchased it from the son of the original owner. It spent the first half (or so) of its life in California and has been in Texas since. I bought the van at 179,xxx original miles in overall great original shape. In the past year, have had the following work done:
- Subaru EJ25 motor swap. This is a game changer. When I first bought the van, he factory 95 hp water boxer engine would struggle to reach 60 mph on the highway. It was borderline unsafe. Since the swap, he van can cruise at 70 mph, o problem. In addition to doubling the horsepower of the factory motor, he Subaru EJ25 is a far more reliable engine. In fact, have driven this van all over the country, rom Boston to Texas and camped in it as far south as Big Bend. It has never, ot even one time, eft me stranded or given me even the slightest cause for concern. It runs like a top. And because this Westy now has a newer, odern engine, t even gets better gas miles as well. On the highway, 've averaged around 17 mph on 87 octane. Not bad at all. Before the motor went into the van, ompression was checked in all cylinders, hich it passed with flying colors. I also had the timing belt and head gasket replaced. This motor has another 100k miles in it easily.- Rocky Mountain Westy Subaru swap kit. These guys make the best kit in the industry. All the adapters, otor mounts, nd a complete exhaust system were included. The kit alone ran about $3500- New paint and dents/surface rust repaired. It looks almost new. They did an amazing job.- GoWesty 1.5" progressive lift springs. Gives the van that aggressive Syncro look.- Brand new BFG All Terrains- GoWesty plate steel bumpers. With shipping, his was a $1000 upgrade and absolutely worth it.- Shady Boy awning. Easy to set up, ven for just one person. Has the upgraded heat reflecting material as well. - All new window and door seals- Yakima locking roof bars and safari rack- New window tint (35% front/5% everywhere else)- 15" Mercedes alloy wheels. Not the GoWesty copies. These are refinished factory original wheels from Mercedes Benz.- All camping gear recently serviced, ridge, tove top, ink. Everything works including fridge on gas, 2v and shore power. Pretty hard to come by a van that has every piece of camping gear working.- Tons of after market gear from GoWesty, us Depot and Van Cafe including the rear hatch tent which turns the space under the rear hatch into an additional room, s well as the GoWest front window screens.- Roof mounted 100 watt Renogy solar panel and 30 amp charge controller. The panel charges two 122 amp hour flooded deep cycle batteries that power the auxiliary electrical system. Honestly, his setup is overkill but I have run an LED tv, nd a compressor driven 12v fridge for over a week with this system and never had the voltage drop below 12.4. There were NO PERMANENT MODIFICATIONS made to the van when installing the system (no holes in the roof), o everything can be removed on request. THE AUCTION DOES NOT INCLUDE THE AUXILIARY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OR SOLAR COMPONENTS. If you'd like me to leave the system in the van, e can negotiate a price after the auction. But keep in mind, hese vans did not come with any auxiliary power from the factory. - I have everything that came with this van when it rolled out of the factory, ncluding both tables, he original windshield curtain and rear bug screen, s well as all of the manuals and a stack of receipts for all of the work that has been done
Overall, his is an awesome Westy, ertainly one of the nicer ones I've ever seen. If you are looking for a reliable Westy to camp in but don't want to pay $80k for a GoWesty rig, his is your ticket. The pictures honestly don't do it justice, nd with a couple of odds and ends, his could very easily be a show vehicle. It's that nice. As is, t's a daily driver quality Westfalia that you can take anywhere on the weekends and have a blast. If the reserve is met, he van will be fully detailed prior to the new owner taking possession. Please email me with any questions. Van is located in Texas, bout 25 minutes south of Houston. I would prefer not to ship it, ut once the full purchase price has cleared, e can talk about it. Thanks for looking
