THIS CAR IS SUPER RARE!! This is the earliest and easily the most collectible and valueable of the Water Cooled VWs. Do your research, it the google with differences between a Rabbit and a Swallowtail, here are somewhere between 60-200 variations depending on how far you go between this Swallowtail Rabbit and all other Rabbits after it. Some obvious and usually mentioned are the brake lines running inside of the cabin of the car (present here), etal blinker and wiper stalks (present here), moothie hood (no front body line in the hood, resent here), swallow" tail panel (present here), iagonal pattern and diagonal door pulls on door panels (black, resent here), he list goes on and on. This car has only one hydraulic strut holding the rear hatch up (swallowtail only) as well as original bumpers, arkers on front fenders, tc... RUST IS NOT A MAJOR ISSUE HERE, NE SPOT OF RUST THROUGH ON EXTERIOR OF BODY (drivers side rear bottom, ictured) NICE SOLID STRUT TOWERS, OME RUST ON DRIVERS FLOOR (not bad) PICTURED SOLID ORIGINAL PANEL ORIGINAL PAINT!
Both CRAZY RARE Rabbit Fender Emblems are intact and in good shape! Door Cards are all four there and in good shape! Seats are not original, riginal Flag Mirrors, riginal Metal Clip On "Air Cooled / Beetle" side trim all in tact (swallowtail only), riginal Metal Door Handles PUSH IN WITHOUT REMOVABLE CENTER TRIM (Swallowtail Only), OOL CAR!!
This Car runs good enough to drive onto a trailer or transporter, eally good enough to drive around town maybe better I just havent tried, ast summer I changed all fluids, pdated the fuel pump, uel filter, leaned the carburetor, hanged the engine oil, ransmission and coolant. I drove it a couple of times at speeds under 55 MPH, he brakes stop it effectively, ngine has good power especially for being attached to an Automatic transmission. The transmission shift at higher RPM like my research says they are supposed to. I am not very familiar with these automatics, t seems to work like it is supposed to but again I dont have but maybe 15-20 miles of drive time on it. Engine does not overheat but it does smoke a little, ould probably use to be driven some, een sitting over 20 years before I revived it!
SOLID STRUT TOWERS, LL ORIGINAL PANELS!, OME TOUCH UP OVER THE YEARS ON CHIPS AND SUCH BUT OVERALL A PRESENTABLE PATINA'd COOL RABBIT!! Some dents and dings as pictured, nly rust I found was in the drivers quarter pictured and the floor in the front, pare tire well back and passenger floors look nice. Rain tray is good.
Currently in dry storage, t has been stored inside for some years now, long with all 6 of my Caddy Pickups and my 10 second 1/4 mile 79 Rabbit (Turbo G60, 0psi, pool, 2in slicks, ORE).
I am certainly a water cooled VW enthusiast. I have a Swallowtail carcass I would rather put my 16v in and coilover cut and hack, his car is far too original for me to put my molester on :)
