Up for sale is my super fun to drive and one of the best looking VW Dune Buggys around. This is possible the only Dune Buggy running individual throttle bodies with a megasquirt standalone programmable ecu.
This was my daily commuteto work this summer. Its great on gas, you'll get an amazing tan and it puts a big smile on your face and others as well. It feels like you are driving a giant go cart, with its dry weight at around 1300 lb. This makes this giant go cart super nimble around turns. Also the brakes have been upgraded with disc brakes in the front.The seats are lightweight fiberglassframe seats, yet very comfortable and supportive. The 17" gloss black wheels are wrapped in 245/Zr17, they are the right combination with the yellow color and makes this buggy looks stunning . In the summer, I drove it to Chicagodowntown and parked it by the planetarium to enjoy the view of the Chicagoskyline. Within 20 minutes, almost every car stopped to look or take pictures, it turns more heads than a $300k lambo.
The original carburetor on this 1600cc vw motor was replaced with electronic fuel injection. The fully programmable ecu is a megasquirt II PCB 3 and placed in a water proof box. It is runninga pair of Kawasakiindividual throttle bodies and 440 cc injectors. Fuel monitoring is via AEM wide bandcontroller and BoschO2 sensor, which is connected to the megasuirt and operates as a live PID ego controller. In simple words, it is constantly making small adjustments to the amount of fuel that is being burned. This allows for better performance and better fuel economy. A turbo or cams could easily be installed and retuned without the hassle and expense of carburetors. You will also get a 2016 android tablet with shadow dash app installed. With the tablet you can monitor all sensors and driver inputs, like rpm, engine temperature, throttle position and alot more. In the app you can change the dashboard and gauge configuration to make it look whatever you choose. You can also connect to a laptop and download tuner studiosoftware for free, which allowsyou to take full control of the engine managementand change all parameters.
I have my reserve price set low for one reason only. When you drive, you will notice that all gears shift very smooth, and beautiful. The only thing that I noticed, is that that fourth gear will pop out under acceleration. However when you hold your hand on the gear lever, 4th gear will stay in gear and never pop out. I drive with my hand on the gear lever, so I could easily live with it. I has not gotten worse in the 2.5 years that its been in my possession. It needs a new fourth gear syncrowhich is very cheap to replace, but as I said, I could easily live with it. It is currently still registered and insured so we can take it on the freeway or just cruise it around before you make it yours. Also just finished a 3 stage, machine compound, polish and wax job, so it looks amazing. It also rests in my garage under a soft cover to protect from dust.
Dune buggys title is a reconstructed title, which means its a modified/altered vehicle. This is the same title any other street legal dune buggy will have. You go to the currency exchange or dmv, and register it just like any other car. There are no extra fees or steps to take, you can drive it the same day you purchase.
I have a stack of receipts of parts that I listed below, there are bunch more parts that haven't listed but got receipts for, along with a chilton's repair and tune up guide. The title is clear and as i mentioned before, the car is currently registered and insured.
