Description

Like my title states I’m selling my 87 GLi 16v that is all OEM with 65k-ish original miles. The reason I say “ish” is because the ODO stopped working at just a tick over 53k miles. Based on the wear items (pedals, shift knob, steering wheel, clutch and interior) and putting a scope into the motor and looking at the internals I, as well as knowledgeable others, estimate the actual miles to be in the 65k range. It may be a little less or more, but and educated guess is 65k. The car is all there and runs and drives. Nearly everything works. The body is mostly straight, but the paint is bad. It shines up okay and looks okay from a few feet away, but up close it is in need of help. There are some scratch and dings here and there and some of the pin stripes have worn away. The interior is the Recaro “Trophy” interior. The structure is solid and all there.

Now the bad:

There is some surface rust on the undercarriage with a few small areas of rot. The rot areas can be fixed but could be pricey. The interior is solid but does have a few areas that are torn. I was told that a previous owner had some rose bushes inside the car and the thorns ripped a few places (I know, who does that. Not too smart). It can be repaired or recovered. The headliner is a turd. It sags in the rear.

This car would be great for 1 of 3 ways.

1. Put a little $$ into and drive it as a daily beater. There are a ton of miles left in her for that. Beaters are fun but I have no need for one.

2. Total part out if you have the know-how and space. The car is all there and runs and drives. There is an easy $3,000+ worth of parts value all day long.

3. 16v swap. If you have an 8v and want to swap to 16v, this is the car for you. It’s all there. Most people just swap in the motor and think that’s it. Nope!!! To be ideal you need the motor, trans, ECU, wire harness, fuel system, air box, fuel pump, housing, accumulator and a few other odds and ends. It’s all here and works. If I don’t get what I want or close to it, I may go this route.

I am also including a set of H&R Race Springs that have maybe 50k on them.

That’s all I can think of at the moment. I’ve tried to describe the car as honest as possible. I’m sure I have missed some things and will update as I remember. I am not advertising this car as perfect in any way. It is not. I highly encourage any perspective bidder to come by and see her in person and go for a spin. We can go over the car bumper-to-bumper; top to bottom. Any questions please ask. I will answer as fast as I can. Good luck bidding and thanks for looking.

I reserve the right to close auction early if I chose.
