This is an incredible opportunity to own one of the most functional and fun recreation vehicles ever made. It's the ultimate minimalist off the grid adventure vehicle. This Westy is in incredible condition for it's vintage and has been loved and cared for over the past 10 years by our family during countless adventures. Interior:The interior is in fantastic condition (this is the other reason we originally bought this van!!). Visually. the only upgrade that we made. was the installation of the power converter behind the driver seat. and we replaced the carpeting in the "living room" (it's just set in. so it's completely removable). Otherwise. visually the interior is basically original. Most all/any upgraded components came from GoWesty and Van Cafe. We have the original refrigerator still installed. although we've contemplated pulling this out in favor of more storage. It works. but as Westy owners know. they aren't the most effective in the world. The Westy sleeps 4. The top bunk is fantastic. We've taken 3+month trips in the van. and I can honestly say that I enjoy sleeping in the van as well as anywhere (although the top bunk foam would be considered "firm"). I am tall (6'4") so we designed a "bed extension" that consists of a 6" foam and fabric covered extension that fits at the front of the bed. It's perfect. (if you're not over 6' 2". you can probably pitch it). Our kids always slept in the bottom bunk. The seat easily folds down. There is a 5 or 7 (can't remember) gallon water tank that is the reservoir for the sink faucet. All of this equipment works perfectly. It's a great system. The stove works great. and has an exterior propane tank that is easy to fill. (With regular use including the refrigerator. we found this would last us 10-14 days before needing to be refilled!)All the original curtains work and are in good shape. The front privacy curtain that covers the windshield and front windows could use some new elastic. My wife added 'blackout' fabric to the back of the original curtains at the back of the van for our daughter when she was a baby. (back window. and the back of each side). And. surprisingly these vans have a lot of storage: full compartment under rear seat. hanging clothes compartment. back storage cabinet (by rear door). 2 cabinets under folding table. one lower cabinet left of the sink and full pantry cabinet to the right of the sink (plus the roof box). All the seats work. All the interior cabin lights work. - We recently had the gas tank pulled and flushed and a new vent installed (GoWesty). which is not an uncommon requirement when they get to a certain age. - The Westy has A/C although we've never used it. The prior owner had used it and said it worked great. although it needed to be re-charged. Using it mostly in Colorado mountains. we never bothered. Motor:One of the best things about this Westy is the upgraded "Tico" style VW 2-liter inline 4 cylinder motor. It was installed by a shop in Albuquerque. NM by the previous owners. The motor has 50% more power than a stock water boxer and drives like a dream. With this motor installed we easily cruise at 75+mph on the flats (a far cry from the original motor). Living in Colorado. we frequently take the Westy into the mountains where it will climb I-70 at 55mph. We bought this Westy. because this motor made this particular car so much easier and more enjoyable to drive. We specifically didn't want an original Westy motor. The shop did an incredibly clean installation. and unlike a lot of the conversions out there. the oil pan is at a stock height (it doesn't hang down at all. maintaining great ground clearance). The motor has approximately 74. 00 miles on it. We average between 20-22 miles per gallon (fantastic for a vehicle like this). Interior Upgrades include:Auxiliary Battery System - (this is a must for any off grid camping as the interior system runs only off of this battery and won't drain your primary drive battery)New domestic water pump for the sink - (plus a spare)3-Window Pop-Top screen. Main door removable Bug-Screen (GoWesty)800-Watt Power converter (2 plugs. Runs off the auxiliary battery)Driver side door seal upgrade. At some point the passenger door could use this too. (very easy to do)Exterior Upgrades:Freshly Repainted!!!! - We finally got the car repainted and of course we're wondering why we waited. It looks fantastic. 15" Rhein Wheels (Van Cafe)Brand New - Goodyear Triple Tread tires. Less than 200 miles on them. (we had this style of tire on for the last 10 years. and liked it so much we got another set). Hard storage box that fits in roof storage compartment - painted to match exterior. Awning (CareFree Colorado brand) - we didn't realize how easy it was to use for a number of years after we owned the vehicle (originally it looked like a pain). so it's only seen limited use by us. Tow bar - 2" ball. GoWesty says that the amount of tongue weight is something like 200lbs? I've used it to pull a motorcycle trailer into the mountains before without a problem. Oversized front sway bar for better roll stability (prior owner)Other new items + miscellaneous:Brand new windshieldWe're including some of the important camping stuff such as leveling ramps. water hookup hoses. extension cord etc)Things we're fixing:Auxiliary deep cell died - we're replacing this from GoWesty. Imperfections:- A few years ago. some kind young gentleman decided that he liked our radio. So he removed that for us. In the process of stealing it. he did some slight damage to the facing of the dash around the radio. We never listened to it. so we covered it. Any replacement radio bezel cover plate will cover any imperfections. - There is a slight series of small tears on the vinyl on the sliding door (probably about the size of an apple). - The netting on the 3- window pop-top canvas have some small tears from use. - There is rust on the muffler / exhaust manifold (typical). - The window tinting could stand to be redone. We love this Westy very much. And it's time to let it go to it's next loving owner.
