Description

Up for consideration is a 1959 Sand Shark dune buggy! This buggy was restored in 2013 and used very little up until the state inspection ran out in 8/14. It has since been sitting in storage but started at least once a month. It's an amateur restoration and not perfect by no means but very clean. It was in decent shape when we first purchased and it ran and drove very well other than some carb problems. So we decided not to touch the engine and trans other than some upgrades on bolt on items. I don't have specifics on engine other than what I'm told by previous owner. It suppose to be a mild stroker engine with a 78mm crank and 90. 5 pistons but I have no way to verify. It does run very well and has plenty power! We did notice that it will smoke a little after it has been sitting for a while but clears up after it runs for a while and does not smoke when it is driven. The engine has an Empi serpentine belt system. New Empi 44 carbs. powder coated exhaust. billet fuel pump block off with coil mount. Autocraft rocker arm assemblies. Same deal on the trans. story is close ratio 1st & 2nd with no other specific info. The clutch assembly was replaced with all new Sachs components and also the cross shaft. I did take it on two short trips around a 100 miles round trip and it does cruise at highway speed fine. It does not have a speedometer. i just used tach as reference to speed. All the gauges are Autometer ultralite which consist of tach. oil. and volts. A very nice thick body that was in great shape before paint. The mounting lip did receive extra layers of fiberglass just to stiffen that area up a little more. The body sits on a tube chassis with a fiberglass floor. The front suspension was replaced with new everything. The brakes were replaced with all new disk brakes front and back by Jamar. stops great! The paint is all quality PPG base / clear and not the cheap clear! The paint looks fine but could look better with some buffing. There is a very slight haze from over spray from where the guy painted the roll cage to close to the finished body. but you have to look pretty hard to see it. Also there are some very fine scratches from wiping it down but overall it looks nice. Everything assembled with stainless hardware. The gas tank is also polished stainless. The 39 Ford style tail lights were just replace with some LED lights. they were a little on the dim side! I'll upload more pics later showing those. Guess everyone is wondering whats up with the Marine Corp theme. well it was done in 2013 as a gift for our son graduating Marine Corp boot camp. He loves the buggy and was very surprised but now feels that he would like to have something a little more practical that he can drive year around here on the east coast. Everything is vinyl decals that come off easily and will not damage the paint. The camo seats are embroidered with USMC and could be cut and removed. Also on the inside panels there are name tags like on their uniforms on each above flapped pockets. these can be cut off also. It is sold as is with no warranties. Check out the pics and video!
