VideoBasic walk around of the car showing exterior and interior.
ExteriorThe exterior is in great condition. You may notice some ice on the car in some of the pictures. I literally just ran it through a car wash and it was freezing cold that day. I consider it to bea 9 out of 10 for its age. Little to no rust. There's not really any dings or dents, ut there are a few scratches here and there. The paint holds a shine great. Overall a very clean Volvo 240.The current tires on it all match with about 85% tread remaining. The headlights and tail lights all work with no issue. Please study the pictures.
InteriorThe interior is also in good condition. I really regret not having it detailed like everyone else with a nice 240 posted on eBay. The interior is very clean with no stains, ut as pictured it wasn'tdetailed. It wasjust as driven. There are no foul odors, ts never been smoked in and there's no pet hair. It does come with the hard molded plastic OEM Volvo mats. Everything works as itshould without issue;windows, ights, adioheated seatsetc. It hascold A/C and hot heat. The spare and jack are both present and accounted for. The stereo you seeonly plays ipods andit will be replaced by onethat actually plays CDs. Be sure to watch the video.
MechanicalMechanically it’s in great shape. It starts right up every time. There's no warning lights on the dash. Thetransmissionshifts through allgears smoothly and the engine pulls strong. Nosmokefrom the tail pipe. I'd trust driving this car anywhere. Suspension is solid. It really runs good. Just replaced nearly every wear item within the last 1k miles (details below).I'llProbably recall a few things so be sure check the bottom of the listing for updates!!!!
Every thing I want the next owner to know (bear with me)I purchased this car 6 months ago from Mr. Knauz, he owner of Knauz BMW in lake bluff Illinois. He was the original owner. It had 99k miles when I got it. I was super excited tofinally have my hands on a clean, anual (5 speed) Volvo 245. When I went to purchase the car they did have service records which I neglected to take with me. All I can recallof the recent maintenance was recent tune up and working A/C (R134a retrofit, 'll get to that later). Anyway I soon decided to replace most of the wear items. All of the followingwere replaced with new parts (most of which you'll see pictured below)
Parts (all within the last 1000 miles):Front and rear control arms and bushingsAll rotors and ceramic pads on all 4 cornersFront sway bar links and ball jointsAll 4 shocks (life time warranty)Hand/parking brake shoesComplete exhaust from the headers all the way backThe down pipe between the headers and the catalytic converterThe catalytic converterThe exhaust from the converter back. Its made of stainless steal. Its an exact replica of Volvo 240 oem exhaust, ut it'll never rust. Clutch (replaced with the recommended Sachs brand)Timing beltCrank sealCam sealRear main seal(The seals aren't pictured. I didn't think to replace them until everything was apart. I just bought them from a parts store).Tires (you actually get 3 sets, ossible 4. I'll explain later)All interior speakersI'm sure I'm forgetting some parts*You can probably get away with driving this car for another 100k miles with only oil changes and brake pads.
So when I bought the car I already had a 93 (don't buy into the 93 wagon hype). It was the beater I was looking for with rust here and there and it did come with a 3rd row seat. When Ibought this one I swapped the3rdrow seat into it. I didn't install all the hardware because I have no use for a 3rd row, just wanted it. The hardware is included in case you want tofinish the install. I replaced allthespeakers in the interior. The fronts and rears are both component set ups. So what you'll have is a 8 speaker system in the car. It sounds good for a240, ut that's not saying much. Thefronts speakers are only 4" (because of the roll up windows). You'll never really get good sound from a 4" speaker. When I got the car there werealso 4" speakers installed in the rear cargo area, which is a pretty stupid location. Rather than make a big job out of installing speakers in the rear doors and rewiring everything, justadmitted defeat and cut the holes in the cargo area bigger and installed 6x8 component speakers. I alsoinstalled prancing moose symbols on the front grill and fenders. If they're not toyour taste, hey come right off and haven't been on long enoughto leave any kind of discoloration or marks. Google prancing moose for more details. Its a comical Ferrari knockoff.Speaking of Ferrari, was this close to buying Ferrari 348 wheels and having custom adapters made for the car. Inthe end I didn't. I ended up going with 16" Volvo 740 turbo wheels. Now the tires on car now have tons of tread on them, he kicker is they don't quite fit. If you make a sharp turn intoa steep driveway or alley the outer rear wheel will rub slightly onthe inside. Its not enough to leave any marks or punctures or leave you stranded. Its only slightly. Included is a never mounted brand new set of 205/50/16 tires (I have the same exacttires on my Saab 900 spgand they're fantastic). The stock 240 tire size is 185/70/14 or a 24.2" tire. The brand new set are 205/50/16 or a 24.1" tire. So it puts you nearly exactly back tostock spec, here will be no rub,the speedo will be accurate etc. However I definitely prefer the bigger tires, hey look a ton better, gress and ingress is a lot easier because of the rideheight, oaks up bumps, ut I'll leave it to you decide which set torun. Also included is a set of 15" turbo wheels with Blizzak winter tires in case you live someplace snowy (though I'dhate to see it go some place snowy. Its the whole reason I'm selling it!).I also have the original 14" steel wheels and tires, ut they're shot, o I wouldn't waste my time with those if Iwere you. One issue I didn't address are the rear taillights. They work great and all, hey just have a few cracks here and there. Instead of replacing them with the OEM red and amberones, really wanted the red and white ones. There's an eBay seller with a set inGermany, ut he doesn't ship to the US. I was trying to finagle a way to get a set of those here. At anyrate a new set of stock ones will cost you $85 if you feel so inclined, ut I wouldhope you would to continue my quest for the red and white set. Now the A/C works and blows cool andwill keep you cool on a warm day, ut it was charged with R134a. That said, would ditch the R134a garbage. Thesystem was designed to work with good ole R12 and there is still abunch ofthe stuff available here on eBay. Order some and recharge it! That was my plan for next summer anyway. I have R12in my E30 and it will freeze you out of the car. Now onereason Iwanted a 240 wagon was because I haul a lot of odds and ends around that I sell here on eBay. To protect the rear carpet I bought the blue mateyou see pictured. Now the Carhad theclassic 240 smell when I got it, nbsp;then I put the mate in. All I could smell was rubber, ut I can gladly say that after 6 months the classic 240 smell is finally back! The only thingsI woulddo to car if I were to keep the car, s get an alarm with auto start, s it has power locks, ou could have key-less entry! I would of course get the red and white tail lights.I wouldprobablyhuntdown a set of euro headlights. The rear speaker crossovers have a spot a 3rd ambient speaker spot, o I'd probably install set of 6.5"s in the rear doors and have a 10 speakersystem. Iwould definitelyrecharge with R12 refrigerant. That's probably all I would have done extra over the next couple of months. So why sell it right? I was looking for ahighmileage(250k+)240 wagon beater to kick around in and haul stuff. It even could have been automatic. I had just found one up in Wisconsin and had it for a week, hen this onepresented it selffor sale and I had to have even though it wasseveral times my budget. Any way soon after purchasing I realized I didn't want to be the one to subject this car to a Chicagowinter and thatit was too nice. So I replaced it with anotherSwedish super model. A 1990saab 900 turbo (also silver with blue interior and manual transmission, ren't I a lucky guy). Ialready have Saab9000 aero wheels and a whale tail spoiler forit! The Saab has 200k miles and is far from perfectso its game on Chicago winter!
As you can see I have 100% positive feedback. I have never wronged any one on eBay before. If you win the car and find at the time of pickup that any thing listed in this auction isuntrueI WILL NOT HOLD YOU OBLIGATED TO PURCHASE.BID WITH CONFIDENCE!!!I would prefer the car to be picked up within 7 days of auction close. If you would need any moretime than that I would have to require a $500 deposit through paypal.
The auction endsMonday February 22ndat 8:30 pm central time. So don't forget to bid!!
