Description

This "rare" (cliché. but fact) flat hood Volvo coupe was purchased from an estate. It was garaged in 1998. when the owner ceased driving. I bought the car from a grandson. who had no interest in it. I was excited by the obvious care it had had over the years. as well as the low. miles. The odometer stopped shortly after I began driving it. I replaced the instrument cluster with one registering higher-mileage. I still have the original. showing 135XXX miles. The seller provided a binder full of receipts and repair invoices dating back to its 30. 00 mile service in 1982. it had two owners. These are the kinds of records people used to keep when they bought a car with the intention of keeping it for many years. They will be included with the sale. Being from Sacramento. the Volvo has absolutely no rust. anywhere. A minor scratch/dent on the rear quarter is the only evident damage. nbsp; The car was repainted with metallic blue urethane (from original red). nbsp; is showing some age. but still shines up nicely. The bumpers. glass. stainless trim are all intact and virtually perfect. Rear bumper has one ding on the rubber strip. I have not included pictures of the under side. but it is as solid and clean as the rest of the car. The alloy spoke wheels in most of the pictures are from my 740 Turbo; the 242 will come with the original wheels and hubcaps. with new tires. nbsp;to complete its stock. retro look. The interior is a couple short steps from being perfect. The door cards. headliner. dash face. carpets gauges. switches. all exceptionally nice. The manual sunroof works and seals as it should. The original clock still works! Aftermarket (probably 90's) Sony stereo works. speakers added to rear shelf. The driver's seat is tired. back seat faded. Genuine. vintage sheepskins on the front. Typical cracks in the dash. covers are available. Upon buying the Volvo. I changed all the fluids. replaced the timing belt and water pump. Complete tune up including plugs. filters. valve adjustment. Suspension bushings were replaced with urethane. The shop which replaced the bushings missed the upper strut mounts (creaking). so they may need replacing. The A/C is all there. not blowing cold. Work performed prior to storage included: new cylinder head at 60. 00 (reason unknown). overdrive rebuild. radiator. shocks and struts. this car was pampered. The driving experience is. well. vintage Volvo at its best. The B21 engine has good throttle response and pulls well in the mountains where I live. Coupled with a tight. quiet 4 speed overdrive gearbox. it is fun to drive. The electric overdrive engages firmly. and allows the Volvo to keep up with freeway traffic. It will cruise at 80 mph without working hard (or so I've heard ; =) Runs cool. but the new (used) temp gauge just started reading "hot". I've checked the system with an IR thermometer and it's fine. I'll be checking that gauge. New rotors and pads on the front. 4-piston calipers stop it in short order. If I were to keep it- and that's fine with me-. I would beef up the sway bars with IPD's 25/22mm setup. sport springs. and perhaps a VX cam. Or for someone so inclined. swap in B230 turbo motor. It's a super-cool classic cruiser or a potential Turbo Brick. Folks on the east coast. whose 240's are slowly rusting into the sunset. nbsp;would be amazed at the condition of this little gem. That said. I would not hesitate to jump in it and drive to the East Coast.
