Description

Up for sale is my 1983 Volvo 240 Turbo. also known as a 245 GLT. I have owned this car for a while now. and absolutely love it. Unfortunately. it has to go to make room for something newer in the driveway. There's not much way around it. Note that the car is for sale locally. I reserve the right to end the auction and cancel any active bids at any time. The car has approximately 364k on it. The odometer broke last week. and I'm waiting on an odometer gear to arrive in the mail. While it's trite to call these cars "rare". they certainly aren't making any more of them. While this one isn't perfect. I think it's a pretty good. driver quality example of a 30+ year old vehicle with a cult following. Let's start off with the bad:-Small exhaust leak on the #1 cylinder-Heater core occasionally lets a puff of steam out. It's springtime. so you (or I) can loop the heater lines to buy some time to deal with it. -Paint/exterior is a 6/10. 8/10 if I'm being optimistic. It had a respray before I owned it. There is a scrape near the gas filler door. and the paint around the door is starting to bubble from having gas splashed on it. I have attached a photo. It looks a LOT worse in the photo than it does in person. That's the only damage to really speak of on the body. There are a few small knuckle dings and a little bit of wear on the hood. but that's it!-Rear floors have rust. I'm including two complete floor patch panels. I haven't had time to fix it. This car has been my daily driver for awhile now. I'm a longtime Volvo guy. and this is the car I have always wanted. but it's time to move on to something newer. Plus. I want to turn my attention to my project car. The car runs well. Burns a little oil. but the car has 336k miles on it. so I think it's earned it. It has 4. 5bar of oil pressure when it's cold. and it idles around 2bar once it's warmed up. The motor has aged well. The turbo does not have any noticeable shaft play. Amazing after 32 years. The gearbox shifts smoothly. and the electric overdrive/5th gear works great. I had issues with the rear axle after I purchased the car. so I replaced it with a low mileage unit. Clutch engages and holds just fine. The interior is in good to fair condition. The seats are not torn. but they are a little worn. The car sports the original AM/FM/Cassette radio. The A/C does not work. but I did crack the system open and found that it was still fully charged! The compressor clutch was broken when I got the car. but I will send a known good A/C compressor with the car if you like. I don't think it would take much to get it working. The car is intercooled. I sourced a complete 1984. 5+ OEM intercooler kit and added it to the vehicle. It currently has a straight pipe exhaust. but I will include the OEM exhaust and muffler. If for some reason you want the piping and brackets to make it not intercooled (WHY??) again. I can include those as well. The boost has been raised a couple pounds. but nothing crazy. Just enough to help it get out of it's own way. The car uses K-Jet mechanical fuel injection. I have gone through the system. replaced all the vacuum lines. injector seals. and any other vacuum seal I can find. The car fires right up when it's cold. but usually takes 2-3 attempts when it's warm. I have kept up with the maintenance on it since I purchased the car. I've fed it regular oil changes and flushed the coolant. along with some other maintenance. Here's the good:-New brake pads on all 4 corners (ceramics up front. organics on the rear)-New brake fluid-New master cylinder-2 new (less than 300 miles) tires on the front. The rears have about 60% tread left. -Rodded out the radiator. and replaced the thermostat. Car does not overheat or run hot. -Polyurethane bushings in the front of the car. OEM replacement bushings in the rear. -Brand new. OEM Volvo ($180 for the pair) strut mounts up front. -New Bosch Oxygen Sensor-Replaced many gaskets and seals on the motor. -Factory intercooler kit-New power steering pump-Recently replaced spark plug wires and plugs-New distributor cap and rotor-Theres more that I can't remember at the moment. The car has been lowered a bit with IPD sport springs and Saab strut inserts. It's not autocross champion. but for what it is. it handles pretty well. I love throwing this thing around the hills. I've put about 10. 00 miles on this car myself. and it has a lot left in it. especially if it goes to someone who will fix what's wrong and care for it in the future. I am located in Franklin. NC (1. 25 hours west of Asheville. 2 hours north of Atlanta) and will be happy to meet you halfway. within a reasonable distance. A delivery charge of $0. 50 per mile (round trip distance) will be assessed. Shipping is the full responsibility of the buyer.
