OVERVIEWYou are bidding on a very nice 1971 Volvo 1800E which has hadone previous owner has always been adult-driven and garaged the majority of its life. The original owner purchased this car new from a Volvo dealer in Stuttgart Germany in 1970; he shipped it to the USA in 1971. I have copies of both the sales invoice and shipping documents.
He totally refurbished it in 1994 changing its color from dark green to articwhite. The odometer currently shows 62321 miles but according to the original owner the speedometer and angle drive were“changed out” severaltimes and he estimatesthe actual mileageat the time that I bought it in August 2005 to be + - 90000; it has been lovingly maintained by me since then and I have added less than 2000 miles since purchasing it. During the past five years it has “trophied” three times in the Renaissance Euro Fest as Best of Marque (2x) and Best of Class (1x).
EXTERIOROriginal color was dark green (Volvo code 94); repainted artic white(GM code 10) in 1994; the paint is in good condition and polishes out well. There are several “crow’s feet” spots in the paint but they are difficult to photograph and are hard to see in this bright white paint. All body chrome is in very good condition with bumpers (original) in good to fair condition. All glass and body seals are in excellent condition. Unit has halogen head lights; in addition it has European tail light lens (red/yellow) with halogen tail light bulbs and rear safety reflectors. All exterior lights are operational.
INTERIOROriginal beige interior with new front leather seats new leather steering wheel cover; new upper and lower interior door panels; and new carpet (items purchased from Don Thibault E. Sandwich MA). Upper dash has hard cover with soft lower dash both in very good condition with no cracks. All instruments are operative including voltmeter which replaced the Smith clock. Includes a JVC AM/FM/Cassette stereo sound system.
ENGINEOriginal B20E engine with Bosch D-Jetronic computerized fuel injection system. Original camshaft was replaced with a “light cam” early on (I have copies of cam specs) otherwise the original engine is unmolested. The engine has a Petronix electronic ignition (pointless) system upgrade.
TRANSMISSION/OVERDRIVETransmission and overdrive were “resealed” in 2012. Four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive works smoothly. There is light gear oil leakage from the angle drive in the transmission (butterfly washer). This unit has a posi-traction rear end which has a slight hum when running but which is fairly typical with a posi chunk.
BRAKES WHEELS AND SUSPENSIONFive original 15-inch Fergat mag wheels with original chrome trim rings and OEM center caps. Mag wheels which were originally black have been powder coated to match body paint. Four DaytonP195/65R15 Quadra tires in very good condition (with nitrogen). Front and rear power-assisted disc brakes; rebuilt calipers and new pads.
SHIPPINGShipment of the vehicle is the responsibility of the buyer. I will be happy to assist in this process as much as possible.
This 1800 is over 44 years old but it looks great and handles in and out of traffic smoothly.
I have tried to show the condition of the exterior and interior with photographs so please look closely. Should you have questions or wish to see additional pictures you may contact me by email or by telephone at 601-924-5600. Time of day for this location is CDT.
Happy bidding!
