Description

I bought this from the family of the original owner a few weeks ago partly because I told my 14 year old she had to learn to drive a manual transmission Willys with a transfer case and hubs before she can get her license. We did it. She did fine. Now she can say the first stick shift she ever drove was a Willys four wheel drive. I have a '54 I'm working on that I had told her would be ready this spring but isn't and won't be for awhile. I also have a 58 but it has a 350 SBC in it that's a little too wild for a beginning driver. She's getting a 1948 CJ2A as a toy for next summer after she gets her license. We are Willys poor! We drove it about 20 miles last Saturday about 5 miles on the pavement and the rest of a couple gravel and Forest Service roads. We had the hubs in and out and shifted the transfer case through 2 wheel/4wheel/high range/low range. It all worked as it should. It did not overheat the oil pressure stayed up at idle after it had been run and all the gauges work except the gas gauge. It started right up hot and idled for 10 minutes or so without overheating. It did not smoke that we could see but it is hard to tell on a hot sunny day. The glass is mostly all good and the windshield wipers work about as well as any old vacuum wipers do. We did the walkaround safety check and all of the lights worked -- tail lights brake lights and turn signals as well as the head lights. Front signal lights even worked. Dash light work. Speedometer works. Horn does not. This little pickup is overall in good condition with some of the typical rust in the floor footwells. Most of the rest of it has very little rust or is rust free considering it is a 1957. There is some welding on the fender and one pretty scabby weld on the right fender/body that will take a little work. The lower back cab corners are a little tough too. Other than that it is pretty good. The box is pretty good and the floor is solid. Surface rust but no rust through. A local Doctor brought this from his family's place in Northwest Montana where he said they had owned it for years before he was born; since it was pretty close to new. That is snow country and this was their winter travel rig for many years. It had not been used a lot in recent years but was always running and driving never a derelict setting in the fence row rotting away. He had a local mechanic rebuild the starter get the alternator working put in points and plugs condenser dist cap etc and rebuild the brakes. He put in new front wheel cylinders and the brakes work fine; they do not pull to the side and do no have to be pumped to have pedal and brakes. He cleaned the carb and fuel pump. It starts on the first turn of the key and runs great. The engine is smooth and quiet. I put a new Batteries Plus $100 12 volt battery in it. The transmission works fine and it does not pop out of second gear like so many of the T90's do. The steering is pretty tight it goes down the road as well as any old Willys does. It has old but serviceable 16 inch radials on it and I have a spare wheel and tire for it. It came with some grill bars which I assume are for it. They go with it. The extra wheels and tires in the back don't go with it. They came off a parts pickup I have and are at the powder coater getting done up in red for S's CJ2A Obviously it is a project but I don't think you are going to find a better one to start on. I debated all week if I was going to keep this one or my 58 I decided since I already have the 58 mostly done and don't have much time to work on them I'd keep the 58 and sell this one. It sells as is where is but I haven't had an unhappy customer so far. Been doing this buy and sell deal for 50+ years. You are welcome to come and take a look at it before you buy it. I also have more photos I can direct you to. PHONE NUMBER!! four zero six nine four nine three four four eight my name is Stan. I have several more of these pickups for projects and parts too including a 57 FC150 and a 50's pickup that should run and a project or parts pickup with a pretty nice box. I will have another 58 pickup coming in soon that I just bought about 200 miles away. I'll have to go get it before I know much more about that one. We are located half way between Yellowstone and Glacier parks. Fly in and drive this home. It would be a slow trip as this is pretty happy at about 50-55 probably not so much if you tried to push it faster. But it would be a fun trip and a lifetime memory. I would suggest if you are going to drive home that you change oil and filter again now that it has been running for awhile probably flush the radiator and bring along some basic tools. Or stop at Wally World with $100 and get what you might need. I will also ship this after it is paid for. There are a lot of companies that ship out of Montana it isn't really that expensive as we are right on the Interstate and if you are not in a huge hurry they will cut you a deal to fill a load. It is also much cheaper to ship since it is a runner and they can easily unload it at other drop off points and reload it if they need to. It can stay here for up to a month storage fee free after that I will move it into a storage yard and you will have to pay storage on it. I have clear Montana title signed and notarized. There are no liens. No buy it now no games this is an auction I'm not just seeing if there is any interest it is for sale. Jump in and bid. Play to win. Be sure you have the money as it is due with $500 down via Paypal at the end of the auction the balance via certifiable cashiers check or USPS money order (preferred) within 5 days if you are outside Montana. If you are in Montana I will take a personal check. Still have to do the $500 down via paypal tho. Thanks for the interest Like Yogi Says "For people that like this kind of thing this is the kind of thing they like!" You'll like this. I will post more photos within a few hours.

As you probably noticed there are no more photos added to those I started with. It's been awhile since I listed anything on here and had forgotten you can't change anything after there is a bid. There are more photos at montana barn cars or you can check out the great falls or helena montana c list. It's 1957 willy pickup runner driver on there. You might want to make a note of some phone numbers etc if you want to catch up with me after this ends Saturday morning. I had intended for it to end Saturday afternoon. The reserve is met so if you are playing make sure you have the money to pay for this in a timely manner. Thanks for all the interest and the bids someone will end up with a nice little Willys pickup to have a lot of fun with. Stan Howe 406-949-3448
