1962 Austin-Healey 3000 MKII
Rotisserie restoration
Show quality throughout
Heritage Certificate
Here up for bids on eBay is this knockout Austin Healey. This car was restored by noted specialist Healey Lane Restorations in 2002 and has travelled just 3000 miles since. The car was restored in its original color combination and is a matching numbers example. 1962 was the only year that triple SU's were fitted, and was the last year for the roadster body style. This car has been in the care of one owner since the restoration, and represents a turn-key example of a concours level Big Healey.

This car was taken completely apart, stripped down to bare metal and built back piece by piece, photos of the restoration are shown further below. The paint was perfectly applied and is simply superb, and that's not a word I use often. It was refinished in its original color of Colorado Red with a very rare "Grey" interior, which is actually more of an off white color. New Dayton wire wheels were fitted on Michelin tires, all 4 in great shape.
The Heritage Certificate confirms the original color combination and engine number. Interestingly, the car's destination after production was Portland Oregon. Click the image to view it larger.
Excellent fit and finish from every angle.
All of the chrome on the car has been redone and is excellent.
All new lights and lenses, all new fender beading, all new weatherstripping.
Well fitting tonneau cover. The car has a matching soft top, imported from England in the correct Everflex material. It actually was never fitted to the car after all these years, still in the box, but is being worked on right now by Portland's best upholstery shop and will be ready by auction end. The car also comes with a pair of plexiglass side curtains, both in mint, unused condition.
The trunk received the same attention to detail as the rest of the car. The windshield is new and without flaw.
Very nice leather seating done to stock specifications. Later style center shift transmission. Adjustable steering column. Premium carpet with the correct under felt was used, the workmanship is terrific throughout.
All gauges work correctly, the car has all new wiring from front to back. Heater works well. Lights, signals and horn all work correctly. The back seat is a nice option for extra passengers.
Here's a post-auction review from when the car was sold by Healey Lane at Barrett-Jackson in 2002. Courtesy of Sports Car Market magazine, used with permission.
This strong running motor moves the car down the road with power to spare. It was totally rebuilt along with the transmission, overdrive, suspension, fuel systems, brake systems, electrical, etc. Basically every component on the car is either new or rebuilt. The driving experience is first rate, although the shifting takes a little getting used to. All of the sychros (2,3,4) are good but the linkage requires a light touch and doesn't take kindly to speed shifts. It soon becomes instinctive but I wanted to mention it. The overdrive engages correctly and makes freeway driving a breeze. The stock exhaust has a great note to it and adds to the enjoyment of top down motoring.
Good looking setup with the triple SU's, a one-year only configuration meant to comply with FIA racing homologation rules.
After 3000 miles, the car still looks fresh.
Clean and crisp undercarriage, but being British, it does leak some oil. Full stainless exhaust from the manifold back.
A look back at the restoration. No shortcuts, no compromises, a quality investment automobile built by a marque specialist.
