Description
I have had BMW 2002's and the far preferable 2002Tii's since 1973. I had looked for over a year to find this particular car and did so in 2003 it had to have never been in an accident it had to be completely rust free it had to have a factory sunroof and have had it's engine rebuilt previously. Before I go any farther I will mention that I would not be selling the car if it were not for two unfortunate events. I had to sell my custom built house with a three car heated garage after the consumer bust caused by the bankers greed in 2008 and then only because I was diagnosed with a terminal illness recently and don't have anyone to leave the car to who would appreciate and care for it. They would just sell it and probably not get near it's value because that is often how people who inherit things react. I was about to put an additional $4000 into the car to drop an '80 or '81 BMW 320i five speed into it but that would be for the next owner depending on how they intend on using the car. I follow these carsextensivelyon E Bay and the BMW magazine and have seen the middle class collectors car market making a huge comeback in the last two years. Last spring I followed two or three cars like mine that sold and the most expensive a 1973 Riveria Blue 2002tii without a sunroof w/o duel Ansa exhausts w/o a signed Moto Lita steering wheel. It also had two small hairline cracks on the dash a few small paint bubbles and it sold for $32900.Before I purchased the car the owner did a $10000 glass out/motor out paint job installing all new rubber throughout. He chose Volkswagon red There are a few minor scratches on the cars trunk lid thatoccurredwhen I tried to remove some bird shit afterhavinga few beers. Over the years I have had thousands of dollars of work done in maintenance to which I have the receipts to most of the work done. I had new OEM rear springs put in. I do have the original front seats in very good condition in storage the car came with these older Racarro seats which I find comfortable. The person I purchased the car from preferred the European bumpers to the bench bumpers. They are in good condition but could use to be re-chromed if one or two scratched spots bothers you. This is all the small stuff looks wise. Mechanically the blower fan motor recently didn't start after taking it out of storage this winter. This is one of those easy to get OEM parts that cost about $100 but the labor to install the part can be $400. There was a small oil leak that I fixed when I had some recent work done on the car. The fuel injection belt needed replacing and the gasket around the belt cover was also replaced. The steering box could use to be replaced as there is no adjustment left in it I am told and again the cost of the part is a couple of hundred dollars but the labor to install it twice that. The windshield has a tiny ding in it that is very minor and the wiper washer bottle has a crack so I can't fill it up to the top. Because I know this car so well and if you are interested I could go describe what I know the car needs and what I might like to have done if time and money was no concern but it is a great running car that I would consider an 90 out of 100. Things like the hairline cracks in the dash would give it 2 points more re-chroming the front bumper another point possibly new front struts another point stuff like that. I last year installed a new Alpine stereo CD player with Ipod plug in and two Boston Scientific speakers on the rear shelf. No speakers in the doors. The transmission runs and shifts well and is synchro in all gears. I could go on for pages the work that has been done and have the full BMW mechanics book that tells how to do everything to this car with pictures not available commercially. The Tii dash clock doesn't work and can be fixed for under $150 with a quartz movement.
