This exceptionally clean Chevelle 300 is a subdued stunner that mixes 489 cubic inches of aluminum V8 with a professional grade driveline, horoughly updated chassis components and ultra conservative aesthetics. And if you're looking for a unique classic that's road ready, how-ready and just plain battle-ready, t's the perfect way to prowl the scene and bruise a few egos!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Featured in the March/April, 003 edition of Chevelle World Magazine, his sublime sedan is an intentionally low-key take on the fundamentals of every hard-edged muscle car: tough looks, turdy components, educed weight and tons of power! The car's body-off, otisserie restoration, hich wrapped in the Spring of 2001, egan with complete disassembly and a full media blast. Once that profile was clean and ready to work, hevelle enthusiast David Garber supplemented new floors and a repaired trunk pan with a repaired rear valance, epaired wheelhouses and fresh quarter patches. With the car's mostly-original metal solid and smooth, tark white 2-stage was accented with restored, riginal trim. And today, his Chevy rolls as one top-notch resto-mod that's clean, eliable and extremely focused.
ENGINE
Since the enthusiast who built this car has a background in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, e knew exactly what he wanted when it came to motivation. He also knew exactly who he wanted to provide that motivation. After a quick trip to the Chevy store to source an all-aluminum GM Performance Parts ZL-1 427, e headed to Clarksville Virginia's Kevin Blanks Performance with a blank check in hand. And, hile exact horsepower numbers have been left to competitors' imaginations, e do know the engine produces 10 to 1 compression on pump gas and can raise the performance stakes even higher with the addition of a little race fuel. At the top of the 489 cubic inch big block, fully adjustable, 50cfm Bo Laws Competition 4-barrel bridges the gap between stainless fuel lines, polished and decaled air cleaner, nd a lightweight aluminum intake. That air/fuel mixture floods aluminum, ectangle-port heads, hich hide a full roller valvetrain under stamped, hevrolet Orange rocker covers. That valvetrain is propelled by a balanced and blueprinted rotating assembly, hich spins a Crower stroker crank, rower rods and JE pistons beneath a proven Comp roller cam. That assembly gets sparked by high performance MSD ignition, hich sequences fire through an AC Delco distributor and thick Taylor plug wires. Below those wires, ooker Super Competition headers make quick work of spent gases. At the front of those headers, ld school pulleys spin an aluminum water pump between modern power steering, coated Edelbrock fuel pump and a reproduction Delco battery. And cooling comes courtesy of a factory-spec radiator, hich funnels anti-freeze through pliable GM hoses and a Chevy Orange water neck.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
There are two very specific reasons this fire-breathing resto-mod was constructed from a post sedan as opposed to a commonplace hardtop. The first is a simple, ightweight body. The second is a full perimeter frame that can accommodate a wide variety of big block drivetrains. Speaking of that frame, his Chevelle's entire chassis has been fully powder-coated. The big 427 spins a proven Borg Warner Super T10 4-speed: a professionally built unit that was donated by a NASCAR Xfinity stock car. That gearbox utilizes a tough Centerforce clutch and 4-inch aluminum driveshaft to twist a Detroit Locker differential and 3.73 gears around a Currie 9-inch axle. That stellar drivetrain rolls in a fully powder-coated suspension, hich benefits from Hotchkis springs, otchkis control arms, otchkis sway bars and quality Bilstein shocks. Stops come quickly thanks to two power-assisted factory drums and two power-assisted Master Power discs. Spent gases are managed by 3-inch, oated pipes, hich center an H-shaped crossover in front of coated Flowmaster mufflers. And power pounds the pavement through 15-inch, ody-matched steelies, hich lap 255/60 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around traditional dog dish hubcaps.
INTERIOR
Decked in brilliant Medium Blue trim, his Chevy's simplistic interior has been wrapped in Dynamat and returned to factory-fresh condition. The car's wide bench seats display piped vinyl covers that fit without any significant wrinkles or creases. In front of those thrones, modernist dash hangs a full array of factory telemetry above a cool knee-knocker tach. At the sides of that dash, rnate door skins center chrome handles in front of factory armrests. A tight headliner, lean carpet and a curved shifter frame those components. In front of the driver, sporty steering wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, restored trunk hides a full-size spare tire.
