Vehicle Overview
1988 CHEVROLET CAMARO LT5,GM HERITAGE MUSEUM CAR,ZR1 MOTOR,FACTORY BUILT,1 OF 1
Up for sale is this 1988 Chevrolet Camaro LT5. This is a 1 of 1 concept car that was released from the General Motors Heritage Collection and is a true piece of Camaro history. It was Commissioned to be built for the 1991 SEMAshow by the Legendary John Moss who headed up the Chevrolet Special Vehicles Division and created some of the coolest cars from the late 1980's and 1990's. It was shown around the country as part of the Camaro's Legends tour and Chevrolet was very proud of this car. If you google this car, ou will see hundreds of articles and blogs on this car.
Not only is this a 1 of 1 car but it is the only factory commissioned car that is not a Corvette to receive the LT5/ZR1motor. The car itself is actually a 1988 Camaro IROC-Z that was a test bed from a previous project( after tons of research I am pretty sure this was 1 of 2 prototypes for the 1992 25th Anniversary Camaro which was supposed to be a heavily modified car but because of the Gulf War it wound up just being an appearance package.)
It was rebuilt again in 1990 and badged as a Z28 and extensive modifications were done to accommodate the 4 cam/32 valve 375 horsepower motor. The motor was a fresh off the assembly line 1991 LT5 motor and is totally stock including the exhaust manifolds and A/C compressor even though the car itself is not an air conditioned car. It also has a stock ZF 6 speed transmission with the included CAGSskip-shift. It has a very trick aluminum air intake system with twin air boxes that is coated to match the color of the ZR1all aluminum motor and is a piece of art in itself. The brakes and suspension are all 1LE factory race parts. It has a custom made exhaust system that sounds wonderful throughout the RPM range(if you know what a modified ZR-1Corvette sounds like then you will know what I am talking about.)
The paint job is Pearl White with Atari Purple and Neon Green Graphics. The wheels are 17" and are painted to match the car. The interior is stock Camaro except the seats are covered in a Neon Green Parachute like material. Here is a link to one of the many feature articles written on this car. 1988 LT5 Chevy Camaro - GM High-Tech Performance Magazinethe actual chassis has 7,000 miles on it but has only been driven around 200 miles in this second life it received as the LT5 Camaro.
This car was never supposed to leave the Heritage Museum and fall into the hands of the public. As a good faith effort for GM to raise cash before having to file for Bankruptcy protection General Motors ran around 200 cars through the Barrett Jackson car auction in January 2009. That was a situation that will most likely never happen again. Third generation Camaro's have recently become more collectible and more valuable as they continue to age. This very well may be the ultimate 3rd gen CAMARO collectible and should not only soar in value in the future but would also be a fantastic prized possession to add to any car collection.Technically I would be the original owner of this car as I purchased it directly from Chevrolet as the first owner 7 years ago. I registered this car in Arizona and had cool vanity plates registered to it.
It has a clean and clear title and car fax and can be registered in any state which is very, ery race for a factory built concept car!!! If you have any questions please call Randy at 480-206-1701. Please call instead of sending emails as it may take me several days to respond.
